Happy Halloween: Candy Confessions

The Color Orange: Our Lady of Weight Loss wants to know ... friend or foe?For those of us who have already 'sinned,' Our Lady of Weight Loss is here, up bright and early, available through-out the day to hear your Halloween Confession and forgive. Thank goodness, because - yes, this 50 pound big-time-loser has a confession and it's only 8 a.m.!

Forgive Me, for I Have Sinned

I did my absolute best. I strategically waited until last night to buy Halloween candy for the cute little trick or treaters that will come knocking on my door today. I stood in the candy aisle and purposefully picked the candy that I like the very least, even dislike!

When I got home and unpacked the groceries, the "Candy Alien" who I thought permanently moved out of my mind returned for a short visit and made me (twisted my arms, I'm all black and blue) rip open the bag and partake in the sugar.

All Is Forgiven, Move On! ~ Our Lady of Weight Loss

Seriously, I feel better having made my confession public and I encourage you to take this opportunity to either write your confession in the comments below or say them out loud to Our Lady of Weight Loss, the patron saint of permanent fat removal.

Spread the word, NOT the icing!

The Money Diet: Cash for pounds?

Janice Taylor, Our Lady of Weight Loss - goes to Hollywood
Are you overweight and under-motivated? If yes, then "The Money Diet" just might be your weigh-out!

Motivation is the driving force that determines just how successful we are going to be. It is the most important ingredient on our weight loss journey; it is that which carries us forward.

Recent studies indicate that weight loss programs that reward people with money, provide a compelling and persuasive incentive to lose weight compared to the same ole, same ole.

How much money has to be on the line for you to jump on the weight loss bandwagon?
Is it more motivating to win money? OR ... to lose money? Hmmmm ... now there's something to chew on!

Interesting enough, "100 Lost" a new reality show is currently looking for teams of two - you and your friend!!! or relative or coworker! - to buddy-up and compete to be the first team to lose 100 pounds and win big!

Teams will have a chance to bet their own money, banking on their ability to lose the pounds and ultimately win, win, win!!!

While out in Los Angeles this week, I met with some of the folk who are putting this show together. Good vibes all around! I think this show will top out Biggest Loser! Especially if they cast me as the Weight Loss Coach! (wink, wink ... you never know!).

If you are interested in being on the show or want more information write to 100Lost@IconicCasting.com

Side note: I just have to share ... As you may remember, 8 years ago, before I permanently removed over 50 pounds, I was the 'fat-girl' who stayed behind in the office holding down the fort, while everyone else went out and had fun! Flying to Los Angeles this past week to film a segment for a weight loss documentary and to meet with 100 Lost peeps was big, big FUN. Live your dream. If I can, YOU can!

Who's in the photo, you ask? Sandra, the Casting Director and me. She's gorgeous, isn't she?! And fun, too. I really liked her, and her assistant RJ.

Halloween Quotes: Eat, drink and be scary.

Halloween Greetings from Our Lady of Weight LossAs I head out to buy candy that I do not like for Halloween (no point in tempting myself!), I am also gathering fun quotes to print and hand out to the adults that accompany the children. I know, very fun and clever! What can I say? I'm doing my absolute best to make Halloween about fun, creativity and less about candy!

Here are my favorites! I encourage you to think outside of the Halloween Candy Bag and find the fun in the accessories. The quotes, the movies, the costume, the laughter, the joy and the spookiness of it all!

"I'll bet living in a nudist colony takes all the fun out of Halloween." ~ Anonymous

"Eat, drink and be scary." ~ Anonymous

"A grandmother pretends she doesn't know who you are on Halloween." ~ Erma Bombeck

"Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it." ~ Lindsay Lohan, Mean Girls

"On Halloween, the parents sent their kids out looking like me." ~ Rodney Dangerfield

"There are nights when the wolves are silent and only the moon howls." ~ George Carlin

Halloween: Is Candy calling your name?

halloween 2007.jpg
Ghosts, Goblins, Gremlins ... Candy ... oh My! by Janice Taylor

Halloween is but two days away! Is "Candy" calling your name? She sure is a seductress!

What to do? Change your name and then ...

Think Ahead!
Curb the Sugar Cravings. On Halloween or on any other day, remember that balanced meals curb sugar cravings! Therefore, do not make a candy bar your breakfast. First have a poached egg, some fruit, a slice of whole wheat toast (or healthy balanced breakfast of your choice) and then ... should you indulge in a piece of candy, you will be less likely to go full tilt hog wild.

Think Outside the Candy Box. You could (yes, you could) give those adorable trick or treaters fun stickers or party favors or even rubber spiders. Now - that's lasting fun!

Last Minute Shopping. This is one exception to the rule "be prepared." Do NOT shop ahead of time. Do NOT keep bags of trick-or-treat candy in the house. HOLD OFF - till the very last second! That means, if you haven't picked up candy yet, DON'T. There's always tomorrow morning or on your way home from work tomorrow night!

Yucky vs. Yummy. Another exception to the 'only eat what you love' rule. Do NOT buy, store, or house candy that you like. What are you least likely to dip into? That's your choice! Choose yucky over yummy!

Keeping YOU Honest!
Read the labels. Even those big bags of mini-bite-sized beauties have labels. Read them and know the magnitude of your sins!

Save Some! Oh boy ... Now there's a crazy concept. Even though you've been careful not to buy your favorite candies - nevertheless, your favorite candies have landed in front of you! How about you choose 3 pieces (or more or less ... you decide) that delight your sugary soul and savor them. One piece per day. YES! Imagine ... setting candy limits!

Hire Dave, the Doorman. If you can't "handle" it, literally - as in handing out candy at the door without implementing the the "One for you, two for me" method ... then delegate someone else to be the one who 'mans' the door and rent a doorman costume for him/her!)

The Morning After
Give "IT" Away. Bring 'it' to the office, give 'it' to a neighbor, donate 'it' to your church! Just be sure to get 'it' out of your house! (Reserve a seat at The Holiday Diet table!)

Skip the "Day After Halloween Get As Fat As You Can for 1/2 Price Sale!" May be the hardest part of Halloween for the gifted shoppers out there, but in the end, 1/2 price candy is gonna' cost you plenty!

What's your strategy? Seriously, what will you do after the Belly Bustin' Bingeing Season Kick-Off? What's your plan, your strategy to get through the holidays without gaining weight?

A Hollywood Scoop! How to Measure Success

Janice Taylor and Our Lady of Weight Loss reporting in from Hollywood! It's true--my day to 'shine' has come ... well, maybe?! I am in Hollywood (feel free to sing with me) filming a weight loss documentary entitled "The Inner Weigh." Am I 'allowed' to say the name? Oops ... too late - it's out of the bag!

I'm hanging with the 'creative types' - the producer, writer but my favorite is Sarah, the make-up artist, who went wild with the purple eye shadow! Yahoo...

Before I headed out, I did check in with Our Lady of Weight Loss, and asked her if she had any advice for me. She passed along the following tidbit on how to measure success! Enjoy your successes, and I'll be back home soon with more of the Hollywood scoop.

How to Measure Success

Everyone measures success differently. Some people measure it by how much money they make, some by their career paths and titles, some by a successful marriage, some by how pretty or thin they might be. Others measure it by the size of their house, the kind of car they have and/or the number of cars. Some even measure their success by the number of bathrooms they have in their house! (True. I knew someone who was exceedingly proud, because there were 4.5 bathrooms in her house.)

When we were teenagers, we measured success by the friends we had. Did we hang with the 'in-crowd?' Or were we losers!!?!

The truth of the matter is that success cannot be measured by material things, nor can it be measured by fame, fortune or dress size. It is an internal job; it is a state of mind. It's based on your values. If you are living a life that is in alignment with your values for are more likely to feel successful, and if you feel successful than you are successful.

As Anna Quindlen, author and journalist says, "If your success is not on your own terms, if it looks good to the world but does not feel good in your heart, it is not success at all."

In order to experience success, you do need to know where you are headed, and what success will look like. After all, if you don't know where you are headed, how will you know when you've arrived?

mentalCISE: A mental exercise from Our Lady of Weight Loss!

By starting with a clear definition of what success looks, we have a compass by which to measure their success. Here are some questions that will help you define success and set you in the right direction.

Fill in the blank:

"You are going to feel success when you ________________."

"Think of how great you'll feel when you _______________."

"It's easy to experience success, when _________________, isn't it?"

One of the things you're really going to love about being successful is

_______________________________.

Imagine how great you'll feel when you _________________.

When you really begin to feel successful, then you ________

_____________________________________________.

When you really begin to feel successful, then you _________.

People can be successful because _____________________.
