Today, December 8, marks the date that Catholics celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the day whereby Mary, a virgin, gave birth to the Christ child.
“[Mary] gave to the world the Life that renews all things, and she was enriched by God with gifts appropriate to such a role.
“It is no wonder, then, that the usage prevailed among the holy Fathers whereby they called the mother of God entirely holy and free from all stain of sin, fashioned by the Holy Spirit into a kind of new substance and new creature. Adorned from the first instant of her conception with the splendors of an entirely unique holiness, the Virgin of Nazareth is, on God’s command, greeted by an angel messenger as ‘full of grace’ (cf. Luke 1:28). To the heavenly messenger she replies: ‘Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me according to thy word’ (Luke 1:38)” (Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, 56).

The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is NOT “the date that Catholics celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the day whereby Mary, a virgin, gave birth to the Christ child.”
It is the date when Catholics mark the conception of Mary, who was conceived without original sin.

Today is NOT the day Mary gave birth to the Lord Jesus, it is the day that Mary’s parents, Joachim and Anne conceived Mary, her first day of existance. I also sent an email regarding this before I saw I could comment.

well. i see the correction has already been made so no need to hear it again. but i will add: it’s an honest mistake. many long-time catholics still get this holy-day wrong. always been a puzzle to me as to why: it is so logical. Mary FULL of grace. an exception to the rule for very good reasons: immaculate, pure. even so, that quality rests within each of us as well. sincerely. we just need more assistance locating it than Mary did evidently. according to dogma anyway. which is always rooted in logic and reasoning. thanks for recognizing this awesome day. many of us appreciate it especially in this tension-laden world. peace of a loving season to all.
