According to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s recently published personal papers, she thought a slimmer version of herself might project a more powerful persona. In 1979, she purged 20 pounds with the help of 56 eggs!
The 20 Pound Plan!
Thatcher’s CRASH Plan included spinach, grapefruit, steak for dinner, black coffee, tea and, every so often – for good measure – a shot of whisky (taken with meat – otherwise not!).
However, it is believed that it was the one or two eggs for breakfast, coupled with a couple more at lunch time that did the trick!
Would you down 28 eggs a week, for two weeks? Hang the health?
Research shows that not all nutritionists, dieticians, and weight loss gurus are in agreement that eggs have a direct connection to high blood cholesterol. Some studies call the ‘egg’ the perfect protein. Eggs are high in vitamin B12, provide nearly a third of our daily Vitamin D requirement, and they are high in minerals.
Weigh-In!
Nevertheless, would you down 28 a week? 56 eggs in two weeks? Comment below!

Cholesterol is an essential component of every cell membrane and important for myriad physiologic functions. When Dr. Uffe Ravnskov, MD PhD looked at the medical literature he found something quite surprising had been documented there. On average people with higher cholesterol live longer. Then again the statin cholesterol lowering drug class alone is a 30 billion dollar a year industry.

i appreciate every bit of information here. however one thing that screams of such juvenile and religious insensitivity is the use of the image of the MARY THE MOTHER OF PERPETUAL HELP illustrated with crown of sunny side up eggs and the head of the Baby Jesus heaped with egg also. what does it hoped to achieve by this illustration? what message does it intend to send to all who read this article. I have such a high regard for this site, beliefnet.com, however at this instance i feel so offended at the utter disrespect and irreverence of ms taylor.

Thanks Janice.
i thought the illustration was hysterical. You always make me laugh! Yes, i would try ANYTHING if it worked.. I too have heard that there is egg phobia out there and that in truth, there is nothing to be frightened about, as long as they are free-range local… So, i am off to boil up a few. I am really too much disappointed to find out that the image of Our Lady the Virgin Mary is used in such a humiliating and funny way.
For me it is very offensive for my religious beliefs and all those like me, if you are sure of your recipe then there is no need to use Our Lady’s image…….tell u the truth I got disgusted and cannot give any credit to this page.

The egg diet is awesome! It completely works too! I did it, by just eating eggs alone for two weeks, and lost over thirty-five pounds!!!!
It was kind of insane, eating the same thing with water again and again, but it was totally worth it!!! Thanks for writing this for us people!!!!

Well, it seems those who offered to try the diet and report back have not. It would be nice to have a bit of reported progress. Apparently it did not work for CJ as there was no post on the outcome. Hopefully, Candi will report back with her progress and maybe a synopsis of the diet as a whole so we can be better informed on procedure and effects.

Many years ago, my grandmother had a book by Jack LaLanne, and in the back of it was a diet–two weeks long, and many, many eggs (I want to say probably as many as in the Thatcher diet). He claimed in that book that this diet would “often” result in up to 20 lbs. of weight loss in the first two weeks. After that, there were menus for continuing your diet to your goals–more food choices in those weeks, as I recall.
I wonder if anyone else has ever seen this diet, and if it is still out there? LaLanne has a website but I could not find any hint of the old “egg diet”–probably because of all the cholesterol hype in the last few years.

I have just completed the 2 week ‘Maggie’ diet….my start weight was 9 stone 9 pounds and I am 5′ 4″. At the end of my first week I lost 5 pounds and then a further 6 pounds making my total weight loss 11 pounds…….I am delighted!
Clearly I did not have a lot to loose so I would presume greater loss could be achieved for those that do.
Wouldn’t want to do this diet too often as a little concerned about the lack of calcium but fantastic for the run up to Christmas and all those lovely dresses I can now slip into!!

I eat a boiled or poached eggs for my meals. i know i should be eating other things but after years and years of failed diets thanks to me having PCOS. i got desperate. a few years ago I was getting ready for a cruise and I knew I would be a eating a lot of wonderful foods, so I went on the egg diet. and lost 18 lbs in 12 days.
I vowed never to eat another egg as long as I lived.
However I love eggs and there are so many ways to fix them if you are creative.
My favorite for weight loss and the one that seemed to work the best is 3 egg whites cooked in olive oil served smothered in Ketchup mustard and hot sauce with a little goat cheese on top.
very yummy and it leaves you full with no cravings. do this two or three times a day. with the occassional baked chicken breast or grilled steak.
don’t go all fancy with it eat tomatoes and apples but be concious of the goal. losing the weight.
I plan to loose another 6 to eight pounds this week.

When I was a junior in college, I gained weight…. LOL the stress! It was only about 10 lbs but I’m 5’2 so it makes a difference for sure. I didn’t think much about my weight gain and when I went home for the summer I ate eggs because my mom was going through mood swings (from menopause?) and she just stopped cooking or doing any maternal behavior.
I fried up an egg using 1-2 tsp of oil, about an ounce of cheese, and white rice. I think I ate more rice at first, but it ended up only being about a few spoonfuls at each meal because the egg was much more tastier and filling. I followed this up with coffee using creamer and sugar (nice and sweet). Well, I’m kind of a one track person, so I ate this meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner every 4-5 hours. Not to lose weight though! just kind of forgot about variety. I ended up losing 15 lbs and very happy with my food.
I’ve tried other foods like vegetables and meat yada yada yada, reallly! I’ve been trying but I don’t feel like myself anymore unless I eat a bunch of fried eggs with white rice every day. I have great energy and I’ve lost about 25 lbs over 1.5 years now which is a plus because I’m a size zero. Seriously though, the more eggs I eat the more weight I lose because everything else just tastes bad, I have to be careful and eat some junk food LOL!
Note. I’ve tried variations like the boiled or poached egg, or scrambled eggs, or egg whites. The only one that works for me is sunny side up, fried bubbly in oil. I don’t know why.. And I do eat more variety now, but its been icky.

Think I’ll try this — past experience shows me that eggs are good for weight loss. I am not worried about the cholesterol — since I am only 4’11″ and need to lose at least 70#s — I will probably die of obesity and its complications sooner than I would succumb to high cholesterol and its complications! I’ve tried about everything else, and I just know that there is something out there that will “click” with my system.

the egg diet (all protein/no carbs) is essentially the same as the Atkins diet. If we put only protein in our belly our body must burn the fat for energy since there is zero carbs to burn. That having been said you can do 3-4 eggs for breakfast, all the bacon you can eat and a couple of cups of green tea and you won’t be hungry for 6 hours. Lunch can be a breast of chicken, turkey or a large hamburger patty for variety. If you want to keep the diet on the cheap side go back to eggs for dinner and finish off the bacon you didn’t eat that morning. This diet will cause the fat to fall off you since the only source of energy in your system is missing (carbs).
be carefull with things like Ketchup and certain fruits that have in many cases alot of carbohydrates which only slows the process. R.I.P. Dr. Atkins. I always turn to his diet when I want to drop 20lbs in a heartbeat. good luck.

can you eat the eggs any way you like? example: with cheese, omlettes, or do they have to be raw?
posted August 11, 2011 at 8:23 pm
Years ago a diet came out called the Mayo Clinic diet (had nothing to do with them) that was 2 hard boiled eggs and grapefruit for all 3 meals. It was only supposed to be used for a few days to drop about 5 pounds. It worked and wasn’t that hard as the eggs are very filling. By the way, Doris, don’t ever eat eggs raw (could have Salmonella). Back in the 50′s this was popular, but chicken farms were safer then and chickens were healthier.
I’ve been drinking fresh organic vegetable and fruit juice along with “green drinks” and have been losing weight. I am going to do the egg diet again, but combine it with salad not steak.

I know it cannot be the eggs alone. I do in fact consume at least 28 eggs per week and have been doing so for at least 6 years. I can assure you that the weight is not dropping. If the diet actually works it must be in combination with the other things that she did in addition to the eggs.

When I was first diagnosed with Diabetes, I was scared to eat anything for the fear of raising my blood sugar, so I went on an ALL egg diet, eating them scrambled for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Well lets just say that after a month of eating eggs as every meal I lost 20+ pounds and my Dr. was just as excited as I was!
So yes, the egg diet does work, as long as you stick with it.

In March I was at my peak of 283. I had gotten down to 243 on my own, and then tried the egg died to try to make a dent because I was plateauing. I have tried the egg diet (or a modification of one) a few months ago. I cheated 3 times during the 2 weeks (pizza/mexican food) but lost 16lbs in 2 weeks!
I mostly am making cheesy eggs and eat 3x a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Diet Rite Zero, soda of choice (no aspartame) helped with the late evening hunger, at least 1/2 gallon of water if not more. I usually felt “full” despite the lack of food I was eating. And occasionally had the carb cravings (which is when I cheated) but it wasn’t the end of the world.
I was also taking a multi-vitamin and a B-Complex Vitamin everyday.
I was skeptical, especially thinking once I lost the weight, if I started eating “normal” again would it all just come right back? Nope! It stayed off, and am happy to say I have lost 15 more lbs since then, just doing regular things I was doing before the egg diet, like watching my carb and calorie intake and light exercise, and am currently at 221.5. (Still have a long way to go)
Losing that weight really helped me make a dent in my weight loss and motivated me to keep going.
It takes A LOT to will power to do this for even 1 week, let alone 2 weeks. If you “cheat” don’t worry about it, just get back on track the next day.
Hope this helps any one that is skeptical.

I see a lot of confusion about the diet on this post. I followed it back in the day and lost 16 lbs in two weeks. I remember that after the first 5 days or so, I started burping up egg. Eeeeek. But it worked before. So I’m ready to do it again. I just got back from the store. Lucky me… eggs and grapefruit and skinless chicken was on sale.
