Only Kirstie is Big, Not her Life
Kirstie Alley is fat. And? And so is Jim, her handyman and exercise buddy. And Kirstie’s got two lovely kids, True and Lilly, and a bunch of pets. And, she’s got a weight-loss product line that she’s pitching. And … Kirstie weighs 230 pounds. And that’s about it, folks.
A cute moment here, a funny moment there, but largely, flat and disappointing, especially for those of us who were fans of “Fat Actress,” a clever show and a good vehicle for Kirstie to show her comedic side that Kirstie created with 7th Heaven producer Brenda Hampton in March 2005 on Showtime; when – by the way – Kirstie hit a high of 207 pounds. Last night, Kirstie weighed-in at 230 pounds even (which leaves me a tad suspicious. Such an even number?)
Hopefully, Kirstie will get her groove back and future episodes will include some useful weight loss information (aside from her green soup), and a more interesting life that motivates and inspires. So far, only Kirstie is big; not her life.

I reallly wanted to like this show. I was a huge fan of “Fat Actress”. What a disappointment. Another unreal reality show. On her former show, Kirstie played an exaggerated version of herself as did other characters on the show. They were all interesting in their own way. On this show everyone is playing their real selves and are about as exciting as watching a 1/2 security tape from a mini-mart. Kirstie is fat, old, and completely self-indulgent. Her children are boring and not worth air time. This show should be scrapped immediately and replaced with more episodes of Criminal Minds OR somehow combine the two shows. Perhaps Kirstie could be the first ever diagnosed Cereal box killer, capable of killing off 50 ounces of cereal or more at one sitting.

I think it’s fun and the though [like all reality shows on] there are obvious scripted set-ups, it’s entertaining and at this early stage leaves me really interested in seeing how fast the weight loss happens…watching the progression. There are some fun people around her – I really like the connection between her and her kids. You can see Alley’s unique decor/design and her signature wardrobe flair (or the desire to get back to that as she loses weight) and I love those things about her so it’s fun to see in her day to day. As a woman, mom, musician, interior/furniture refurbisher, good food lover…I think it’s probably much more appealing and relatable for me than it would be for a man.

Here is a clip of Kirstie on Larry King saying that she has been fat for only 3 years and then a clip of her in 2004. It is like she thinks cameras did not exist in 2004 or something.

This show is not about weight loss, it is about a FAT actress with no willpower and a need to support her lifestyle. She cannot get any acting jobs as all leading men find her repulsive and all skinny actresses are afraid she will eat them. Push yourself away from the table Kirstie.

I am so saddened by all the negative comments. No one overweight should get an acting job? A scripted show is more exciting? Most of America chooses to live in fantasy. They push away reality because they don’t want to see the truth, which in most cases involves them having to admit things about themselves. I hear so much laziness in these negative comments, so much irresponsibility and immaturity. These comments are LAZY. Think a LITTLE BIT, please.

I really don’t understand why she has a show about this. She’s a very funny, talented comedian and actress. And yes she’s fat at the moment. But there are plenty of people who are talented who aren’t fat, and there are plenty of people who are fat who lack talent. So why have a show that focuses on her weight, when she could actually have something funny and interesting that has nothing to do with whether she weighs 230 or 160 or anything in between?

I really can’t understand why everyone is mad at the author of this piece, I see nothing insulting in it and I am 240 lbs. I watched the show and it was pathetic and Kirstie just seems so superficial and neurotic and frankly I am uncomfortable watching her dump her insecurities on her kids, she seems spoiled and self-indulgent emotionally. I was hoping to be inspired to go on a weight loss journey with her, but was sorely disappointed. She has lived in the rarified air of Hollywood too long and her narcissism is showing. What a crock.

Quite useful article. Myself & my neighbor were preparing to do some research about that. We got a high quality book on that matter from our local library and most books were not as descriptive as your information. I’m exceptionally glad to see such information which I was searching for a long time.

Hey, I think your site might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your blog in Chrome, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, great blog!
