Diet Tip Tuesday: Winter Solstice and Your Weight

Diet Tip Tuesday: How does the Winter Solstice impact your weight?
The Winter Solstice occurs in the Northern Hemisphere on December 21, 2010, at 6:38 PM ET and 23:38 UTC (Universal Time). It marks the official beginning of winter and it brings with it the shortest day – and the longest night – of the year.
Back in the good ole days, when – in the winter – the leaves fell from the trees and a good many plants slowed their outward signs of growth in order to protect their roots and their core, humans followed nature’s lead. People worked with the light and rested in the dark.
People understood that winter is the perfect time to turn inward, to lay low, to hibernate. And a good time to dream fabulous dreams of the year to come.
With the advent of electricity, we have created an artificial light that reaches far into the winter nights; thus, allowing us to stay up later than we should and keeping us working harder than we ought to. We don’t allow ourselves time to rest and renew. Nor do we allow ourselves time to let our minds wander … to dream.
We don’t protect our personal roots. We don’t shield our core. We just keep going … moving … doing … until we are no longer human beings, but rather ‘human-runnings.’ It’s no wonder we are in a state of imbalance.
In order to restore balance, which in turn, will help you to let go of those extra pounds, try logging in a substantial amount of zzzz’s this winter. Go to bed no later than 10 p.m. knowing that for every hour you sleep before midnight, you will dramatically increase the amount of balanced and happy energy come the light of the next day.
The better rested you are, the deeper you sleep during the dark hours, the more productive and healthy you will be; and the more time you will have to dream of what is yet to come.
Rest. Repair. Dream.
Spread the word … NOT the icing,
