Our Lady of Weight Loss

Broken Zippers? Where did your resolution go?

Each and every time we make a resolution, which is, in effect, a promise to self, and then lose our resolve, we are apt to feel down and tired. Our hearts are heavy; we feel a loss.
If it is something that we have resolved to do more than once, such as permanent weight removal, these broken promises, which have been known to take form in busted zippers (if you get my drift), then the pain is that much more intense. Yet another failed attempted. Deep sighs …
And if this tsunami of gloomy feelings comes at the end of a cold or dreary January, after feeling so high and so sure that this year would be the year, forgetaboutit. We have hit into the trifecta of upset: Broken resolve, busted zippers, heavy hearts.
While it would be grand to resolve to do something and then do it, somehow we often don’t. We think of life as linear but in fact, it is circuitous in nature. Rarely are there straight lines from here to there. More often than not you have to round about and follow the twists and turns until it falls into place.
Breaking a promise to yourself is a personal betrayal. It can hurt our souls and crush our spirits. Realize that permanent weight removal is a process, as is life. Whatever you might ‘resolve’ to do, please do it with loving kindness. Self-loving kindness.
Embrace the circuitous nature of life.
Spread the word … NOT the icing!
