Is the Unlucky End Here? Rapture, May 21 + Bad Luck, Friday the 13th

Have you heard?  Rapture is upon us. According to Family Radio’s Reverend Harold Camping, the second coming of Jesus Christ is scheduled for May 21, 2011.  Camping tells us that on that date, at 6 p.m. exactly, a massive earthquake will hit Fiji and New Zealand.  And thus “the end” begins.  Only “true believers” will be saved in the Rapture.

I shared this ‘news’ with Our Lady of Weight Loss this morning over a fruit salad (mostly pineapple, absolutely delicious – just right ripe).   I confessed to OLofWL that Rev. Camping’s prediction coupled with the fact that tomorrow is Friday, the 13th – considered by many to be the unluckiest of all days – has left me a bit unnerved.

Our Lady of Weight Loss reminded me that there are some things in life that we have no control over.  Rapture being one of them.  However, there are ways to improve our luck!  She advised me to concentrate on the things that I have some influence on, to go back and re-read “13 Ways to Improve Your Luck,” a gallery piece that she and I wrote together for Beliefnet.

“Luck is thought to happen by chance; it’s not thought to be something you can plan for or obtain by intention. Some say luck is decided by our fates, or believe that some fortunate souls are mysteriously born under a lucky star.

At quick glance, it might look like there is truth to that. After all, some people’s lives overflow with abundance, vitality, successful careers, and loving relationships.

However, luck is not just a random event. Webster’s Dictionary defines luck as “a force that brings good fortune or adversity; a force that operates for or against an individual.” So, if luck is a force, you should be able to tap into it … at any time!

After a great deal of research and experimentation, I am here to tell you that there are ways in which you can tap into positive force and improve your luck. Indeed, luck is the product of our own mental focus and attitudes. Imagine now that by changing your focus, you can intentionally increase the amount of luck you experience in all areas of life.”

And you?  How are you feeling? Unnerved?  Not so much? Feeling lucky?

It seems that there is another group on the scene with a new perspective in disputing Camping’s prophesies. They make a compelling statement that “Jesus is here now.” Check out their billboard which I think will stir the pot a bit.

Jesus very specifically that not even He knew the hour or day He would return. Only the Father knows. Yet there are groups of people still spewing out that “they” and only “they” know His exact arrival. I wish they would crack open their Bibles and read them for a change instead of making Christ’s true followers look ridiculous because whatever idiotic thing they say or do reflects on the entire Body of Christ.
