Paula Deen, the 64 year-old celebrity chef known for her rich Southern diet, is about to come out of the closet and announce that she does, indeed, have type 2 diabetes, a condition that is known to result from unhealthy eating and obesity.
Paula will be sporting a fat-cat hat, as she finalizes a multimillion dollar deal as spokeswoman with one of the big pharmas, Novartis, to endorse their diabetes drug.
Will Paula turn in her Bundt pan for a juicer?
Will she continue to serve up platters full of fried foods dripping in heavy cream, butter and cheese? Will she continue to push her mac and cheese, deep-fried Twinkies with a side of drugs?

I read often and have appreciated many things shared and learned. But i do have to take a moment to point out that the sole cause of type 2 diabeties is not just obesity & a side of twinkies as youve stated. There is no question that unhealthy habits and lifestyle are a hugh part of the growing problem in western society, diet plays a massive part in our health period. But there ARE ppl who develope type 2 thru no part of gluttoney inactivity and ignorance. Your comments add to the judgement of these ppl. 3 members of my family have developed type2, all vegan, active and educated in what equates healthy day to day living. As much as i agree with what you share sometimes, your assumptions even prejudice is evident in todays article.

You make a good point. My mother has type 2 diabetes, due to no fault of her own. She’s close to 96 and these things happen. My ‘surprise’ was more about Paula partnering with a pharmaceutical company. And I wondered how that sat with y’all… Thanks for writing and please keep on reading and leaving comments. I love hearing from you and want to know what you think!!! ~ Janice
