Chewing the Fat: What to do when FOOD Calls Your Name???

Dear Our Lady of Weight Loss I really don’t quite understand it, but food – in particular – sweets with a heavy emphasis on chocolate – has a crazy kind of power of me.  It knows my name and frequently calls out to me.

How do I stop food from calling out to me?  How do I take its power away from it?  ~ Fat and I Swear I Can’t Help It.

Dearest Friend ~ I hear you; loud and clear.  Please know this.  You are not the first to whom “food” has called out to.

Nevertheless, have no fear.  Our Lady of Weight Loss to the rescue with two possible ways to stop this crazy phenomenon from happening!

The first way is to simply change your name.  If your name is Beth, try changing your name to Sally Ann or something equally as different sounding as your original name.   The tricky part of this is that you have to remember that you’ve changed your name, which can be difficult when ‘Food,’ in your case – ‘Chocolate’ – is seductively calling out to you.

The second way is to come to the realization that …
Food is Just Food.

“Huh? What?”  you say!

True enough: Food is Just Food.

Food does not come fully equipped with vocal chords.

Food does not know your name.

Food cannot call out to you.

Food has no power.

Food it not your best friend.

Food is not your lover.

Food is not your enemy.

Food cannot make you feel better.

Food cannot lay a guilt trip on you, nor can it fill you with shame.

Food is just food.

The next time you hear yourself saying, “I have no power; food calls my name,” remember that food is just food and that it is YOU who is doing the name calling and denying your own power!

Hope that helps! ~ Our Lady of Weight Loss
