Janice & Dr. Norris Weigh-In: What Are You Hungry For?

birthday cake coloring book.jpg... continuing my 'blog-O-sation' with Dr. Norris ... Let There Be Cake!!!

Dr. Norris ... speaking of mothers ... have you seen the video of my 92-year-young mother, Harriet, Queen of Cake??? Oh My Goodness!!! Cake reigned supreme in our house. It was the centerpiece of all happenings and relationships.

My mother baked a strawberry shortcake for birthdays, lemon cakes for my brother's homecoming, chocolate cake for my father, etc. etc. etc.! My mother said that there's no point in having coffee without cake. SHE was HUNGRY for CAKE!!!

I know this might seem silly, but when we visit my mother now, I bring 'sheet cake,' for us to color, as in with crayons! (birthday cake coloring book.pdf)

At the end of the day, What Are WE Hungry For?
LOVE, FUN, LAUGHTER, HAPPINESS, RELATIONSHIP, and pretty colors! And since we've always communicated through and with cake, I don't see any need to take it out of the picture! So rather than eliminate cake, we just use a different form of it!

I truly believe that permanent 'fat' removal a.k.a. weight loss takes a good deal of creativity. Creative planning on all levels!

And I am always hungry for platters of creativity and someone to play with, laughter and smiles! Are you smiling?? Feel free to download the cake and color it ... and by the way, you don't have to stay within the lines if you don't want to!

I'm on a mission ... did you know??? To make weight loss fun.

Spread the word ... NOT the icing,
Janice

Measure Success: Crafty Fashionistas Weigh-In

ART%20tapemeasure%20bracelet.jpg

One day, as Janice Taylor, Beliefnet Blogger was negotiating her way along the rocky road to Sveltesville on her 50 pound weight loss journey, she got fed up with measuring her thighs and waist, so she got busy and found a new way to measure success!

How do You Measure Success?

To be perfectly honest, one day while standing on a plateau of enormous magnitude, I snapped. I screamed, I cried, I felt sorry for myself. The Scales of Injustice would just not budge.

Truly, is not measuring oneself a masochistic act (especially if you are doing it hourly)? Is success limited to the movement of the scale? The tightening of the tape measure?

If the thought of wrapping a tape measure around your waist, hips or thighs is just too overwhelming, why not make a groovy, funky, fun bracelet out of it?! I wear mine all the time, and it never ceases to amaze and delight!

How to Make Your Tape Measure Bracelet
Supplies:
black elastic thread
one needle with eye that is large enough to get black elastic thread through it
one tape measure (color of your choice, although I must say red is simply fab if you are wearing red glasses, have on red nail polish, a red shirt ... go RED!)

Instructions:
Thread your needle with the black elastic thread; knot it at the end.
Place needled at the 1/2 inch mark and sew through, then loop the tape measure to the left and put the needle through at the 1/2 inch mark, and now go to the next 1/2 inch mark (should be inch 1) and pull through; and then up through 1.5 inch mark; and back down again at the 2 inch mark. Get it? You are looping in and out, making a ruffle.

When you get to the end, tie a knot and cut the elastic. Tie the ends together. Make a bow. Now you've got a tape measure bracelet! Woo hoo!!!

Consider yourself a success ... at the very least you are making a grand fashion statement!!

Spread the word (NOT the icing)!

Snap Your Weigh Thin: Be A Foto Food Journalist

dog dog.jpg

A Picture IS Worth a Thousand Words (and can miraculously remove 3 ounces of excess weight) by Janice Taylor, Beliefnet Blogger.

Food journaling keeps us honest. It helps us to keep track of what we eat and identify when and why we eat. In other words, keeping a food journal can shed light on our eating habits. Statistics show that those who keep food journals are more successful at losing weight and keeping it off (permanent fat removal) than those who do not.

Early on (seven years ago), at the beginning of my permanent fat removal journey, I wondered how illuminating it might be if I photographed everything (and I mean everything) that I ate. From full-course meals to bites, licks and tastes. Would I eat less? Be more honest? Gain a different kind of insight that journal writing doesn't provide?

What did I learn about myself, and my (dysfunctional) relationship with food? Plenty!

1. I am a multi-tasker, extraordinaire! I can eat and read; eat and talk; eat and watch TV.

2. I am a grazer. I eat all day long. (Ran out of batteries one day!)

3. I love being a FOTO FOOD JOURNALIST. Hooray! Another fabulous thing to add to my resume!

I invite YOU to grab your camera ... digital, disposable or analog (the old fashioned kind) and see your habits, your food, your weighs in black and white or color!

Supplies: Camera; food

Instructions: Photograph everything you eat. Don't concern yourself with what other people think. If you're out with friends or at an important business meeting, I am sure all will be impressed with your artistic and creative nature! Just tell them, "I am a Foto Food Journalist."

When you get the photos back from the lab or download them onto your computer, take a good look and make a list of things that you've learned about yourself.

You might be surprised to see how healthy your eating habits are ... or not!

Above all, just have FUN.

Spread the word (NOT the icing),
Janice
