Christmas Diet Tip: Eating Slowly Translates to Pounds Lost

Are you worried that Halloween will turn into a two-month binge?
Are you feeling anxious that the holiday season kick-off is upon us?
Are you concerned that you might gain weight?

Here is One Thing YOU CAN Do Today that will help you gracefully and sveltely move through the holiday season.

Chew Slowly and Savor the Flavor
Research shows that those who slow down while eating and savor the flavor, eat less than those who gulp and stuff.

In a recent study conducted by the University of Rhode Island, scientists found that when eating quickly women consumed 646 calories in approximately nine minutes. When they ate slowly, they averaged 579 calories in 29 minutes!

Get it? They ate 67 calories more in nine minutes than they did in 29 minutes! In addition, those who slowed down and savored the flavor, enjoyed their meal and felt satisfied on multiple levels!

One thing you can do today: Slow Down ... Savor the Flavor!

HALLOWEEN: Is Candy calling your name?

Tomorrow is Halloween! Is "Candy" calling your name? She sure is a seductress!

What to do? Change your name and then ...

Think Ahead!
Curb the Sugar Cravings. On Halloween or on any other day, remember that balanced meals curb sugar cravings! Therefore, do not make a candy bar your breakfast. First have a poached egg, some fruit, a slice of whole wheat toast (or healthy balanced breakfast of your choice) and then ... should you indulge in a piece of candy, you will be less likely to go full tilt hog wild.

Think Outside the Candy Box. You could (yes, you could) give those adorable trick or treaters fun stickers or party favors or even rubber spiders. Now - that's lasting fun!

Last Minute Shopping. This is one exception to the rule "be prepared." Do NOT shop ahead of time. Do NOT keep bags of trick-or-treat candy in the house. HOLD OFF - till the very last second! That means, if you haven't picked up candy yet, DON'T. There's always tomorrow morning or on your way home from work tomorrow night!

Yucky vs. Yummy. Another exception to the 'only eat what you love' rule. Do NOT buy, store, or house candy that you like. What are you least likely to dip into? That's your choice! Choose yucky over yummy!

Keeping YOU Honest!
Read the labels. Even those big bags of mini-bite-sized beauties have labels. Read them and know the magnitude of your sins!

Save Some! Oh boy ... Now there's a crazy concept. Even though you've been careful not to buy your favorite candies - nevertheless, your favorite candies have landed in front of you! How about you choose 3 pieces (or more or less ... you decide) that delight your sugary soul and savor them. One piece per day. YES! Imagine ... setting candy limits!

Hire Dave, the Doorman. If you can't "handle" it, literally - as in handing out candy at the door without implementing the the "One for you, two for me" method ... then delegate someone else to be the one who 'mans' the door and rent a doorman costume for him/her!)

The Morning After
Give "IT" Away. Bring 'it' to the office, give 'it' to a neighbor, donate 'it' to your church! Just be sure to get 'it' out of your house! (and join The Christmas Diet)

Skip the "Day After Halloween Get As Fat As You Can for 1/2 Price Sale!" May be the hardest part of Halloween for the gifted shoppers out there, but in the end, 1/2 price candy is gonna' cost you plenty!

Fat Fighter! Fitness. Food. Fun

I was so excited this morning to wake up (yes, that's always a good sign) and receive a surprise email from Sahar from FatFighterTV.com.

Sahar reviewed my book, All Is Forgiven, Move On.

And she picked up on the "Get Out of Jail Free" cards. As I mentioned yesterday, I'm out of town (LIVE from my hotel room) ... and the Innkeeper keeps on bringing me trays of Port and Chocolate! And I keep forgetting how to say "No, thank you!" Truthfully, if my only sin these few days is a piece of chocolate per day and a tiny glass of port, that's pretty good. As Our Lady of Weight Loss says, All Is Forgiven, Move On! Nevertheless, Get Out of Jail Free cards are a useful thing to take with one on a trip!

FatFighterTV.com is a great resource for you guys! You might want to click onto it and see what Sahar has to say about Fitness, Food and Fun! She got tons of smart tips, recipes AND videos! YAY! We love videos!!!

Last night, there was a knock, knock, knockin' at my door. I opened the door ... (first mistake).

The Inn's proprietor sent a little box of designer chocolates on a tray with a small amount of port to accompany it. Chocolate and Port! Knocking at my door!!!

Somehow or another, I forgot how to say "no, thank you." It slipped my mind!! It wasn't until after I'd finished the chocolate and the port that I remembered.

Should chocolate and port come knocking at your door, here is your guide to 'no, thank you' ... no excuses now - for me either, I've got it all covered.

Weight Loss Tip: Travel Survival Kit

Sometimes you've just got to laugh ... at yourself!
I'm headed out of town this morning for 2.5 days ... woo hoo! I love packing up my little suitcase, rolling it and myself out to the curb and hailing a cab. I'm leaving on a jet plane!

Anyway, I packed last night. And this morning, as I added the last of what I'm taking with me and made a quick sweep through my bag, double-checking the essentials, I really had to laugh at myself.

My suitcase is stuffed with the following:


  • a small little plastic container of artificial sweetener (do NOT lecture me, please, about how it's not good for me)
  • a big box of melba toast rounds
  • 6 tiny boxes of raisins (1 oz. size ... they come in 1.5 oz. size boxes, but I stick to the 1 oz. size)
  • 6 fruit strips (from the organic grocery store)
  • 5 real apples
  • 3 healthy power bars (under 150 calories)

In addition, I made breakfast and packed it in my pocketbook. Two English Muffins with scrambled eggs! One for the airport while waiting to board; one for the plane before landing. Plus an additional apple.

  • 3 books (like I'm going to have time to read 3, but I don't know what I'll be in the mood for)
  • travel board games
  • i-POD loaded with self-help CD's


The last time I traveled, I was so intent on bringing enough food with me and stuff to do at night, so I wouldn't get into food trouble - no kidding - I forgot my pants. I almost did it again, but caught myself this morning and now, yay!! I have pants and underwear packed, too.

So, on the one hand, I am truly laughing at myself. I am a kooky weight loss artist, for sure! A fundamentalist dieter ... an orthodox dieter. Call me what you like. Laugh with me, too. BUT, on the other hand, I permanently removed 50 pounds.

Is it worth the effort? You bet it is!
