The Ultimate Fighter: How to Win the Battle of the Bulge

Our Lady of Weight Loss: Does your weight loss chart look like an EKG?Want to lose weight, but you don't know where to start? Being honest with yourself about how you feel, what the number of the scale says and what it means to you is your first step toward emotional freedom and ultimately to winning the Battle of the Bulge.

I received the following email from a very brave and honest Kick in the Tush Club member. M.L. put her feelings about herself right out there and now the work begins!

Dear OLofWL ~ I am fatter than I have ever been, and even though I intellectually get that things can only get worse from here, I lack the motivation to change. What stands in my way? At the end of the day, no matter how much weight I lose, no matter my dress size, I will still be ugly and undesirable. What's the point? ~ M.L.

Dear M.L. ~ Thank you for putting your feelings right out there! You have created what I call a 'double bind.' You have positioned yourself in a place where, no matter what, you can't win. If you lose weight, you still won't get what you ultimately want. And if you stay 'fat' or get even heavier, you will feel just awful and suffer the consequences in terms of your health.

What to do? First congratulate yourself on taking your first step toward getting your 'upward spiral' in motion. You not only spoke your true feelings, you asked for help. Brava!

And now, let's make 'self-love' the primary ingredient in your 'diet' plan. I've put together a quick 3-step 'self-love' program. Commit to these steps. Follow them religiously, every morning upon waking, for at least 30 days. You will be surprised to find how your experience of yourself will begin to shift.

Fake it till you make it! Many of us suffer from low self-esteem, even self-hatred. I know I had my issues at the beginning of my 50 pound journey. Begin to pretend that you love yourself now.

1. Look in the mirror and say, "I love you." Aloud. Again. Louder. With feeling. Again! With conviction! "I love you!"

2. Fill in the blank. "One thing I love about myself is _______________ ." If you need to pretend to like something, feel free to pretend. Eventually, something will rise from deep within and you will say, "Oh, I really do love that about myself."

3. Email yourself a motivational postcard daily! Write it as if you are writing to a friend, "Dear Janice, Have a great day! I love you. - From Janice" (Check out Our Lady of Weight Loss's ecards!)

Imagine the changes that are beginning to take place as you take the time to say "I love you" to you, acknowledging the good within you, and sending yourself a word of encouragement! What a journey! ~ OLofWL

To Live or Die: 5 Quick Steps to Weight Loss Warrior

KICKOL-LOGO.jpgAll of us have experienced things in our lives that have hurt us, made us feel 'less than,' circumstances that have left us feeling and playing the 'victim.' Some of us have in childhood suffered terrible losses, or were physically or emotionally abused, or teased by fellow classmates. The list is long.

Here, today, we are adults and while so much could have and did happen in the past, I am wondering, if on some level, you are still feeling or acting from the 'victim' place. How might this behavior be holding you back? Are you living life small? In a large body?

You might be operating from 'food victim mode' if:
You think you 'deserve' ice cream sundaes, cakes and cookies, because you had a hard day. (Think again!)
You take what happened to you in the past, drag it into the future and keep using it as an excuse over and over again. "I can't do this, because I was ______________."
Sound familiar?

If you want to move from living the life of a 'food victim' to living the life of a 'weight loss warrior,' then follow these 5 easy steps!

5 Quick Steps: Food Victim to Weight Loss Warrior

Step 1. PRACTICE GRATITUDE
Here, today, look at your life and list everything you have to be grateful for. Warriors see their glass at least half full!

Step 2. KNOW YOUR INNER RESOURCES
Here, today, fully ingest that you are a survivor. It took a great deal of resourcefulness and determination to have made it through the obstacles that have been thrown in your path! Name your inner-resources. Warriors acknowledge their strengths!

Step 3. BREATHE
Here, today, stop for a moment. Take in a deep breath, and in your mind's eye, gather up your resources and all that you are grateful for and fold it into your day. Warriors live in the moment.

Step 4. What Do You WANT?
Here, today, ask yourself, "What do I want?" Make a list of all that you want. Let it flow. Warriors claim what's theirs!

Step 5. Visualize!
Here, today, in your mind's eye see your future. See yourself moving, smiling, healthy, happy, energized. See yourself fully actualized. Let go of the victim and be the warrior that you are! Warriors move toward their compelling futures. They are not weighed down by their past.

Live Free or Die: How to Coach Yourself Happy.

KICKOL-LOGO.jpg
You may be clear about your goal, but are you thinking past your goal? Have you considered what reaching the goal will do for you or how it will change your life? Here, Our Lady of Weight Loss, presents an opportunity for you to 'coach yourself happy.'
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

People are often clear about a goal. At the same time, they are not clear about what achieving that goal will give them or do for them. Nor are they aware of how reaching their goals (weight loss or otherwise) will change their life as they know it.

You can achieve clarity by stating a goal.
"I want to be rich."

Now ask yourself:
What will achieving this goal do for you?
A: It will give me financial freedom.

What will financial freedom do for you?
A: It will allow me to quit my sucky job and travel.

What will traveling do for you?
A: It will broaden my horizons.

What will broadening my horizons do for you?
A: It will make me feel better about the way I live my life.

What will making you feel better about living your life do for you?
A: It will make me feel good about myself.

What will feeling good about yourself give to you?
A: Self-confidence

What will self-confidence give to you?
A: Freedom to be me.

Get the idea? Keep digging deeper and deeper.
Toss out a couple of goals and see where it takes you!

And let me know! Please. I just love hearing from you!

diets don't work ... Listening Does.

Weight Loss Coach logo.jpgWhat does your body have to say about how you are living your life and the foods you are stuffing into her? Do you know? Or have you been overriding the sound judgment that your body has been trying to express?

Be a Good 'Body' Listener.
How often do you really listen to your body? How often do you hear her moan and groan, "I'm stuffed, you can stop now," but you choose to ignore her? How often does the sight or smell of food drown out her words of wisdom? How often do you drift off into a sugar-glazed coma?

It takes practice to be a good 'body listener,' but in being one you are not only sending a message to your body that you care, you are also putting yourself in a much better position to act responsibly.

Open Your Ears and Listen
Your assignment for today is to practice 'intentional listening.' Plan to sit with yourself before breakfast, lunch and dinner, if even just for a minute or two or three if you can. Close your eyes and respectfully ask your body, "How are you feeling today? Are you getting what you need? How can I help you? I am truly listening."

The Power Within
Just sit. Just listen. Make yourself available ... to you! All the answers you need are within you and your body is just waiting for you to stop and listen! You may not have realized the power of listening yet, but this exercise will prove it to you.

Diets don't work: Transformational journeys do

Fat Suit.jpgDo you want to manifest deep, lasting and significant change? Do you want to permanently remove those excess pounds? Do you want to step out of your fat suit? Then you must journey inward, take a good honest look at your core beliefs, what you value most and your identity.

As Our Lady of Weight Loss reminds us, the first step on this inward journey is to take responsibility for where we are right now, in this moment.

Even though you may feel like you are victim to other people cookin' up fattening food and serving it to you; even though you may fall victim to the basket of bread on the restaurant table; even though the fast food restaurants make it cheap n' easy to ingest those burgers and fries - at the end of the day, you are responsible for what you put in your mouth.

Our Lady of Weight Loss's
Top 3 "Take Responsibility" Vision Questions!

Write these questions out in your Our Lady of Weight Loss's Kick in the Tush Club notebooks and then sit back and thoughtfully and honestly answer them!

What part did you play in creating your weight; your excess pounds?

What do you need to do to take responsibility for your health?
What first steps might you take towards creating a healthier you?

How to move from stuck to unstuck!
What's your stay fat strategy? Yes, you have one!
