A Hollywood Scoop! How to Measure Success

Janice Taylor and Our Lady of Weight Loss reporting in from Hollywood! It's true--my day to 'shine' has come ... well, maybe?! I am in Hollywood (feel free to sing with me) filming a weight loss documentary entitled "The Inner Weigh." Am I 'allowed' to say the name? Oops ... too late - it's out of the bag!

I'm hanging with the 'creative types' - the producer, writer but my favorite is Sarah, the make-up artist, who went wild with the purple eye shadow! Yahoo...

Before I headed out, I did check in with Our Lady of Weight Loss, and asked her if she had any advice for me. She passed along the following tidbit on how to measure success! Enjoy your successes, and I'll be back home soon with more of the Hollywood scoop.

How to Measure Success

Everyone measures success differently. Some people measure it by how much money they make, some by their career paths and titles, some by a successful marriage, some by how pretty or thin they might be. Others measure it by the size of their house, the kind of car they have and/or the number of cars. Some even measure their success by the number of bathrooms they have in their house! (True. I knew someone who was exceedingly proud, because there were 4.5 bathrooms in her house.)

When we were teenagers, we measured success by the friends we had. Did we hang with the 'in-crowd?' Or were we losers!!?!

The truth of the matter is that success cannot be measured by material things, nor can it be measured by fame, fortune or dress size. It is an internal job; it is a state of mind. It's based on your values. If you are living a life that is in alignment with your values for are more likely to feel successful, and if you feel successful than you are successful.

As Anna Quindlen, author and journalist says, "If your success is not on your own terms, if it looks good to the world but does not feel good in your heart, it is not success at all."

In order to experience success, you do need to know where you are headed, and what success will look like. After all, if you don't know where you are headed, how will you know when you've arrived?

mentalCISE: A mental exercise from Our Lady of Weight Loss!

By starting with a clear definition of what success looks, we have a compass by which to measure their success. Here are some questions that will help you define success and set you in the right direction.

Fill in the blank:

"You are going to feel success when you ________________."

"Think of how great you'll feel when you _______________."

"It's easy to experience success, when _________________, isn't it?"

One of the things you're really going to love about being successful is

_______________________________.

Imagine how great you'll feel when you _________________.

When you really begin to feel successful, then you ________

_____________________________________________.

When you really begin to feel successful, then you _________.

People can be successful because _____________________.

More to Love: Luke and Tali Still Together

Luke, the plus-sized bachelor in search of his plus-sized dream wife, narrowed the playing field to two: Malissa, blonde and Christian. Tali, dark and Jewish. And then he headed home, with gals in tow, to his Pa and Ma for their input.

Pa made a point of saying that Malissa who was raised in Southern California was a better choice for Luke. In other words, if you were to read between the lines, he would have preferred that Luke stick to his own kind.

Luke's mother, clearly the more open-mind parent (they're divorced, big surprise), preferred Tali, realizing that she was a woman of substance and intelligence.

Tali mentioned, with relief (read between the lines again, please) that Luke was more like his mother than father. After all, when you get married, you marry the person and their family.

At the end of the day (or show), Luke tells Malissa that he loves her but yet ... his heart belongs to another. She is understandably shocked. Tears fall. Will she get over him?

Luke proposes to Tali. She says yes.
And they live happily ever after? Well, we'll see!

Flaming Lips: No Licking Allowed

Flaming Lips: Don't LickLips are amazing. They help us to eat, talk, smile, and express emotions. And, most importantly, they were made for kissing. We use them all the time, yet we don't know their real name.

It is 'the vermilion border'. And guess what - the vermilion border (okay, I'll call them lips) is not made of skin, rather something close to mucous membranes.

Lips are vulnerable as they are not protected by thick layers of skin, like the rest of our body. The blood vessels in our lips are close to the surface, thus giving them their luscious color.

Lips lack sebaceous (oil) glands and therefore have no natural oils. They burn in the summer and are among the first casualties of the fall and winter. It's likely that they will dry - and in extreme conditions - crack.

The resulting damage can increase your chances of developing cold sores or even lip cancer.

How to care for them?
Protect them against the elements (in summer and winter); stock up on lip balm with protective sunscreen. Due to the damaged ozone layer, the sun is strong year round. And your lips are more likely to become dehydrated in winter. If you live in snowy areas, consider how the light is reflecting off the sun. It's stronger than the summer sun!

Drink plenty-O-water. Helps hydrate your entire system, including your lips.

No licking allowed. Not your friend's ice cream cone or your lips! Licking makes your lips drier. Every time you lick your lips, the saliva evaporates and with it goes your natural moisture (which isn't plentiful to begin with!).

No chewing or biting your lips. For goodness sake, it looks awful, and you are removing the little bit of skin that your lips have.

Be sensitive. At the end of the day, gently remove your ruby red lipstick.

Before bed, slather on some more lip balm or vaseline.

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Keep those vitamins pumping through your system.

Kiss away - but be careful! Although not as reliable as fingerprints, there are no two lip prints alike, and they be used to identify you!

Kate Gosselin: Naked for Playboy? (Vote here!)

My sources tell me that according to Star magazine Kate Gosselin was offered $400,000 to pose for Playboy. It got my mind to spinning naked thoughts and wondering, if Hugh called me, would I say "yes?" How confident do I feel about my body? How confident do you feel about your body? Is $400,000 enough?

Even though I permanently removed over 50 pounds and went from a size 18 to a size 4 (or six, depending on cut - I like to keep it honest); even though I look kick tush in skinny jeans (if I say so myself); even though I appreciate my body and all it does for me; even though my body is the epi-center of my life, from which I experience my thoughts, feelings, physical sensations; even though I sure could use an extra $400,000 (remember though, you'd have to pay taxes on that money and lawyer's fees, etc.) ...

Let's get real. $400,000 wouldn't do it for me. Getting naked for the world would give me a headache. I'm not that secure...

Unless, of course, my contract included lots of airbrushing, final approval, and royalties!

And You? Would you pose for $400,000? How much would it take for you to get naked? Comment below and Pass it forward!

As for Kate, she declined. She was reported to be "mortified." She didn't think it appropriate because of the children.
