Back on the Wagon NOW: 13 Small and Easy Steps

13 Small and Easy Steps that Will Get YOU Back on the Wagon NOW

Do NOT Give Up!
I promise you that it is totally okay that you overate this weekend. After all, one weekend doth not a fat person make. This is a time to chant our mantra, All Is Forgiven, Move On! Good. Say it again ...

... All Is Forgiven, MOVE ON!

That's right. This is a time to MOVE ON, get back on track, jump back on the wagon (gracefully, please). I know - it feels overwhelming, but if you try just one (or more) of these small steps every day, you'll be back in the saddle, losing once more in no time at all! And you'll be feeling great about yourself!

13 Small and Easy Steps that WILL Get YOU Back on the Wagon NOW!

1. Take a Short Walk. Even if it's a five minute slow stroll around the block, get up and move your booty!

2. Whip up just one healthy recipe. It doesn't have to be fancy, just healthy. Oatmeal will do!!

3. Start your day with a healthy breakfast. It does make a HUGE difference!

4. Drink your water. Water is the holy life force. Go for 8 to 12 glasses a day.

5. If you BITE IT; you must WRITE IT. Start writing down what you eat (again).

6. Get Support. Join the Kick in the Tush Club; go to the boards

7. Scissors and Glue. Get busy on your vision board. Cut and paste and psych yourself up! Include pictures of your goals and words that are meaningful to you!

8. Head to the health food section of your supermarket or the health food store and stock up on healthy!

9. Do yard work. In your yard or your neighborhood garden! There's nothing better than sticking your hands in the dirt to get grounded.

10. Listen to inspirational music. What are you favorites? Please comment below, so I can listen too!

11. Eat fruits and veggies! They say that we should eat 9 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Imagine, just for today that you actually did just that! Wow, what an accomplishment.

12. Slow down and savor the flavor. I promise you, it makes all the difference. You will enjoy your food and eat much much less.

13. Crochet, sew, play cards, work on a jigsaw puzzle. Create some nighttime activity that keeps your hands busy.

If I can get back on track, YOU CAN too!
Jump on the wagon with me!!!

Spread the word ... NOT the icing!

Thanksgiving Leftovers: The Big-Fat Guilt-Free Turkey Sandwich

Want to eat your Thanksgiving leftovers and "get back on the wagon" at the same time?

I realize that the day after is almost, if not more fun, than Thanksgiving Day itself! After all, you've been looking forward to that relaxed time when you can curl up with your big-fat-Turkey sandwich! Haven't you?

Goodness knows, Our Lady of Weight Loss does not want to deny you the pleasure of a big-fat Turkey sandwich!

Here are a few of my favorite Day-After Thanksgiving Our Lady of Weight Loss approved Sandwich Recipes!

TURKEY BACON CLUB. NO joke! Use fat-free mayo and turkey bacon with your leftover turkey and serve up a Turkey Bacon Club sandwich.

OPEN HAM SANDWICH. Thinly sliced ham followed by a nice dollop of Dijon mustard, topped with a thin slice of reduced-fat cheese on a fat slice of whole-wheat toast. Pop it in the toaster-oven. Watch cheese melt. Eat. Enjoy!

WHITE EGGS AND HAM (or TURKEY) OMELETTE. Use egg whites as your base for a ham or turkey omelet. Be sure to toss in a bunch of crunchy, colorful veggies! Want to add some of that low-fat cheese? Go for it! And now place it on a thin slice of your favorite bread.

TURKEY (or HAM) PIZZA. Get yourself a thin-crust pizza (Boboli makes a good one), sprinkle on bits of turkey and/or ham, a little of that cheese. Some of those crunchy veggies. Wowzer!

What are your favorite day-after Thanksgiving sandwiches?
Be sure to share them right here (comment below) or in the Kick in the Tush Club community!

Holiday Stress: Antidote

Weight Loss Coach logo.jpgWant to make the holiday fun, memorable and alleviate holiday stress?

How would you like to trade in feelings of overwhelm and holiday stress (which I admit are mounting by the second for me. YIKES! There are only 7 days till Thanksgiving, and I don't have enough carrot recipes to get me through a 4-day weekend with my family!), for moments of calm, peace, tranquility and pride, self-expression and accomplishment?

How would you like to focus on the joy of the holiday, remember the fun moments, the giggles, the 'creative' ways in which you navigated family situations?

"Yes!" you enthusiastically reply. "I sure would like to trade in holiday stress, 'negative' feelings that are causing me to spiral downward ... and on the way down, grab a hunk or two of Pumpkin, Apple and Coconut Custard Pie!"

"Is it possible?" you ask.
"Yes!" I answer. "It is possible and here's how! ...
... Create Your Holiday Journal!

Whether or not you are experienced at journaling, whether or not you consider yourself a writer, whether or not you have a creative bone in your body, I can tell you that keeping a holiday journal is a great antidote to holiday stress, and it is a lot of fun!

Your journal will help you to focus on the experiences of the holiday season - all the happy and joyful experiences - and the other ones, too (perhaps in a humorous and transformative way)!

Your Holiday Journal presents an opportunity to record yourself in the image you'd like to be remembered. (Hmmmmm ... think about that! Don't leave it up to your kids to tell your grandchildren and great grandchildren what you were like; spin your own tale! Speaking from my own paranoia!)

In all seriousness, you can also use your journal to reflect on your blessings and your spiritual journey through the holiday season. By adding to your journal each year, you will create a wonderful keepsake for your family, as well as a record to help you make the Holiday Season better each year.

And an extra bonus. You can't eat while your hands are busy cutting and pasting photos or writing with pretty pens!

Step One: Journal Style

It is important to select your journal carefully.

This book is a place where you will share your innermost thoughts, feelings, reflections about the holidays. It can be a place to hold artifacts and photos. Perhaps a recipe or two that you want to hold on to for next year. Or a recipe or two that totally bombed with photos of people's faces eating something into which, you inadvertently spilled the entire contents of a bottle of hot sauce. (See, humor!)

Take time to select and set up your Journal in a way that suits you best and if, at some point, it's not working, get a new book! (Revolutionary idea!!!)

Your journey should appeal to you on a number of levels. You might consider its feel, its look and functionality. Feel good about your book. Feel comfortable and relaxed when writing in it.

Step Two: Organize Your Journal

I'm imagining that you don't want your journal to be an extension of your junk drawer or overly cluttered linen closet! Chaos, disorder! How will you organize your journal?

Perhaps you'll want to keep in chronological order. Day 1: Sweet Potato Pie Fight ... or you might want your journal to have sections. One section for happy moments; another for recipes; or another for photographs.

Step Three: Diary vs. Repository of Memories

Most people think of journals as diaries, but in this case it is more than that. You are recording experiences and feelings about a specific period of time. How will you explore your experiences? Your feelings? Might you include others, inviting them to contribute a page or their thoughts?

Whatever type of journal you choose, however you organize it, you will be so pleased at the end of the holiday season when you look through the wonderful keepsake that you created.

Have fun!

Christmas Tip #13: Ward off Cravings, Bingeing and Depression

It is particularly important to go into the 'light' during this time of year, when the sun sets earlier and earlier and we are less likely to get out.

Too little sun light can activate cravings for fatty, high-calorie foods like cakes, cookies and chips. Lack of sunlight reduces the brain's production of serotonin, the mood-boosting brain chemical that not only helps us to feel happy but also suppresses food cravings and bingeing!

So ... Open your drapes and blinds. If you work in a windowless office, take a power walk at lunchtime. Twenty minutes of sunlight a day should do it.

Join me as we KICK those dreary blues away, ward off cravings and bingeing. Walk on the sunny side of the street. Hooray! LIGHT!!!!

Spread the word ... NOT the icing!
