Kate Gosselin: Naked for Playboy? (Vote here!)

My sources tell me that according to Star magazine Kate Gosselin was offered $400,000 to pose for Playboy. It got my mind to spinning naked thoughts and wondering, if Hugh called me, would I say "yes?" How confident do I feel about my body? How confident do you feel about your body? Is $400,000 enough?

Even though I permanently removed over 50 pounds and went from a size 18 to a size 4 (or six, depending on cut - I like to keep it honest); even though I look kick tush in skinny jeans (if I say so myself); even though I appreciate my body and all it does for me; even though my body is the epi-center of my life, from which I experience my thoughts, feelings, physical sensations; even though I sure could use an extra $400,000 (remember though, you'd have to pay taxes on that money and lawyer's fees, etc.) ...

Let's get real. $400,000 wouldn't do it for me. Getting naked for the world would give me a headache. I'm not that secure...

Unless, of course, my contract included lots of airbrushing, final approval, and royalties!

And You? Would you pose for $400,000? How much would it take for you to get naked? Comment below and Pass it forward!

As for Kate, she declined. She was reported to be "mortified." She didn't think it appropriate because of the children.

Sundae Puzzle: Mandala - the perfect circle

Click to Mix and Solve

This week's Sundae Puzzle is inspired by my yesterday's visit to the Rubin Museum. Well, actually it was inspired by my visit to the Rubin Museum's gift shop, which housed many books and gifts that were from India and Tibet.

Lakshmi, is the Hindu and Jain goddess of wealth, prosperity and good fortune. The consort of Vishnu, she is said to have taken different forms to be with him in each of his incarnations. She is a principal object of worship during Divali, when her presence is sought in homes, temples, and businesses for the whole of the year to come.

The Exhibit that I saw was worth seeing, as well!
Art's Mandala: The Perfect Circle
"This exhibition explores the mandala, one of Tantric Buddhism's most widely used meditational tools. Although mandalas have been assigned any number of definitions, from magic circles to cosmic diagrams, few of these meanings are either specific or expansive enough. The exhibition seeks to both refine and deepen our understanding of the mandala, decoding its structure, meaning, and related practices."

Watch the online exhibition!

The Secret Power of Ganesh: Remover of obstacles (belly fat or otherwise)

DOG Ganesh JIG 2.jpg As Our Lady of Weight Loss was moving into a state of bliss on a leisurely and contemplative stroll on the "Road to Svelvesille," she bumped into Lord Ganesh, the oh-so-chubby and wise, elephant headed Hindi God, who is best known to be the remover of obstacles.

Just as one might expect, Ganesh was carrying a 'laddus,' a bowl that was filled with sweet meats. His appetite for sweets is legendary. So legendary that offers of them are often left at his shrine!

"Oh Ganesh," Our Lady of Weight Loss said, "It is so good to see you. It's been far too long."
"Yes," Ganesh replied, as he offered Our Lady one of his sweet meats.
"Thanks, but no thanks, Ganesh. I'm not hungry. And truthfully, I just saw the movie, "Food, Inc." and unless that meat you're carrying is organic, I'm not interested."

Our Lady of Weight Loss continued, "But you know, there is something you can help me with. Many of my Weight Loss Coaching clients struggle with obstacles that are continuously tossed left and right in their paths. In addition to the usual 'natural' obstacles such as lightning striking trees and then toppling on a car, it seems they are confronted by their husbands bearing ice cream pops, their mothers baking cookies, the ubiquitous candy bowls in their offices, and so much more."

"Oh, I know," replied Ganesh. "Just the other day I was shopping in Gourmet Garage and just the amount of free samples was enough to feed my village for a day."

"Yes, there's that too. Obstacles and temptation everywhere. What can you offer to my peeps that might help to free them from food obsessions and move them forward with grace and ease?"

"That's easy, Our Lady," Ganesh responded with glee. "I can provide a mantra, a religious and mystical series of words that can be chanted aloud or silently. Mantras are, in a certain sense, the most ancient method of using affirmations that can bring change to one's life."

Ganesh enthusiastically continued, "Hey, isn't "Step 75" in your fabulous book, All Is Forgiven, Move On about mantras? And by the way, congrats on your first book, Our Lady of Weight Loss being a part of Oprah Book Club, Summer Reading, 2009!"

"Thank you, Ganesh!" Our Lady smiled. "It is a thrill to be on the same page as Oprah, and yes, "Step 75" in AIF, MO is entitled "The Mother of All Mantras." Now ... please ... what is the mantra you can offer my peeps so that they can easily and effortlessly plow through their obstacles.

"Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha." Ganesh chanted 108 times.

* * *

There are many chants to Ganesh, but a simple and powerful one is this:
Om gam ganapataye namaha!

A simple and loose translation might be:
Om = Salutations! Everyone wake up!
Gam = The secret power sound of Ganesh. It is his "seed syllable" or bija mantra.
Ganapataye = Another name of Ganesh, the breaker of obstacles.
Namaha = Yo! Ganesh! You da God!

And here's how to pronounce it!
Om = ohm or aum
Gam = Somewhere between "gahm" and "gum". In some dialects it is "guhng".
Ganapataye = gah-nah-paht-ah-yeh
Namaha - nah-mah-hah

Take your time learning this mantra. And then, as you chant your first round of 108 repetitions, slowly speed it up.

Om gam ganapataye namaha!
Om gam ganapataye namaha!
Om gam ganapataye namaha!

And to further embed, infuse, soak in the mantra, and the power of Lord Ganesh, Remover of Obstacles, chant while working on your Sunday Jigsaw Puzzle!!!

The Power of Gray: Six Succulent, Money-Making, Winning Ways to Power Up

I consider myself an optimistic person. When I was a very little girl the movie Pollyanna hit the screens and I loved it, and I took it in on a cellular level.

Pollyanna starred Jane Wyman (Ronald Regan's ex-wife), Karl Malden (one of the most dynamic actors of all time), Hayley Mills (loved her!) in addition to Agnes Moorehead, Adolphe Menjou, Richard Egan and a cast of character actors that are simply unparalleled.

The Plot:
Pollyanna lost her missionary parents in an automobile accident. She was taken in by her austere and uber-proper, maiden Aunt Polly, who was rich, rich, rich. However, 'mean' Aunt Polly was, she did take Pollyanna on shopping sprees (Aunt Polly didn't want the town folk to see her in her missionary rags). This was a big part of the hook for me. Oh My! I sure would have loved for someone to take me on a shopping spree to top end stores, whose staff fussed over me and brought out adorable, fabulous clothing.

Anyway, I digress ... The central theme of the story was The Glad Game. Pollyanna learned this game from her dead missionary father (clearly, before he died). The premise is that there is always something to be 'glad' or happy about, no matter the circumstances.

Which brings me to today ... perhaps silly to some (after all, there are plenty of more serious things we could look at from our 401Ks to Afghanistan to Darfur) ... but nevertheless 'this' is something that is right in front of me, something that I uncharacteristically bitch n' moan about.

The Gray New York City Skies.
However wonderful New York City is (and oh boy, is it!!!), it manufactures too many drab gray days that drag me down, down, down!

What to do?
First, I take full responsibility for my state of mind. I'm the one manufacturing my blue mood; not the gray skies. The sky is merely there!

Next, it's time to explore the color itself and find new ways to happily embrace gray!

Six Succulent, Interesting, Useful,
Joy-Filled and Money Making Ways to Experience Gray Skies!

1. Warrior Gray!
Dark gray or charcoal gray, evokes strength and mystery. Therefore, on a dark gray day, I choose to connect with my strengths. I am a (weight loss) WARRIOR! I am mysterious. My masculine side will be activated.

2. The Accessory: Gray!
On a light gray day, I shall imagine that the sky is my hat - an accessory - that I will mix with pastel pinks, blues, lavenders and greens. On light gray days, I will unleash my feminine qualities.

3. Retro Gray!
For a retro look and a fun gray day, I will add hot pink to my wardrobe.

4. Money Gray!
Gray and Green are the best color combination when it comes to money, so I will therefore apply for loans and seek wage increases (or a job) on gray days, in which I will wear a serious gray suit with a green blouse!

5. Decision Gray!
Gray is also associated with the undecided; things that are not quite going right. Gray days are, therefore, the perfect day to look at those things that you are tolerating and an opportunity to come up with a plan!

6. Crown of Glory Gray!
And finally, for those who are 'gray,' consider one proverb from the Bible that says, "The gray head is a crown of glory, if it is seen in the way of righteousness." I shall consider the sky my crown of glory and work toward being a more righteous soul!

What will I do today? I will drape a hot pink scarf around my shoulders. I will pay attention to the gray skies, see its beauty, appreciate all the many nuances of gray, and contemplate how glad and happy I am to be alive in grayness.

What will you do this gray day? Share your happy remedies!

Is Splenda Safe?

I've been hearing a lot of bad buzz about Splenda.

"Many body-conscious people opt for artificial sweeteners instead of sugar when they want to satisfy their sweet tooth. Splenda is a common choice.

What is Splenda? It's a mixture of sucralose (or E955 - named by the European Union) and filler (maltodextose and dexose). Sucralose is a disaccharide (which literally translates to "two sugars") that is made from sucrose by replacing three hydroxyl (OH - oxygen and hydrogen) groups with chlorine (Cl). (Precision Nutrition members can read more about the various saccharides in All About Carbohydrates.)

That's how Splenda got their original slogan, "Made from sugar so it tastes like sugar." However, after getting some flack about misleading consumers, they changed the slogan to "Starts with sugar, tastes like sugar, but is not sugar." Not sugar... good to know -- though 47% of responders to a survey (by Johnson & Johnson, the parent company of Splenda) didn't know Splenda wasn't natural." (source: Precision Nutritional.com)
