VIDEO Christmas Tip #12: Filling Up On Happiness

I was recently talking to one of my star coaching clients (each and everyone of you a star in your own way). Betty (the names have been changed to protect the innocent) said, "I know I should fill up on happiness instead of food."

Her comment led to a rich and satisfying conversation about happiness and how it affects our weight. It is a way bigger challenge to stay the course, and lose weight when you are feeling unhappy, depressed or sad; isn't it? Weight loss is about a lot more than just food and exercise.

To that end, here follows a download of a 'body' for you to fill with happiness ... Happy Body.pdf. Be sure to listen/watch the video. It explains all!

Spread the word ... NOT the icing!

HALLOWEEN: Is Candy calling your name?

halloween 2007.jpg
Ghosts, Goblins, Gremlins ... Candy ... oh My! by Janice Taylor

Tomorrow is Halloween! Is "Candy" calling your name? She sure is a seductress!

What to do? Change your name and then ...

Think Ahead!
Curb the Sugar Cravings. On Halloween or on any other day, remember that balanced meals curb sugar cravings! Therefore, do not make a candy bar your breakfast. First have a poached egg, some fruit, a slice of whole wheat toast (or healthy balanced breakfast of your choice) and then ... should you indulge in a piece of candy, you will be less likely to go full tilt hog wild.

Think Outside the Candy Box. You could (yes, you could) give those adorable trick or treaters fun stickers or party favors or even rubber spiders. Now - that's lasting fun!

Last Minute Shopping. This is one exception to the rule "be prepared." Do NOT shop ahead of time. Do NOT keep bags of trick-or-treat candy in the house. HOLD OFF - till the very last second! That means, if you haven't picked up candy yet, DON'T. There's always tomorrow morning or on your way home from work tomorrow night!

Yucky vs. Yummy. Another exception to the 'only eat what you love' rule. Do NOT buy, store, or house candy that you like. What are you least likely to dip into? That's your choice! Choose yucky over yummy!

Keeping YOU Honest!
Read the labels. Even those big bags of mini-bite-sized beauties have labels. Read them and know the magnitude of your sins!

Save Some! Oh boy ... Now there's a crazy concept. Even though you've been careful not to buy your favorite candies - nevertheless, your favorite candies have landed in front of you! How about you choose 3 pieces (or more or less ... you decide) that delight your sugary soul and savor them. One piece per day. YES! Imagine ... setting candy limits!

Hire Dave, the Doorman. If you can't "handle" it, literally - as in handing out candy at the door without implementing the the "One for you, two for me" method ... then delegate someone else to be the one who 'mans' the door and rent a doorman costume for him/her!)

The Morning After
Give "IT" Away. Bring 'it' to the office, give 'it' to a neighbor, donate 'it' to your church! Just be sure to get 'it' out of your house! (and join The Christmas Diet)

Skip the "Day After Halloween Get As Fat As You Can for 1/2 Price Sale!" May be the hardest part of Halloween for the gifted shoppers out there, but in the end, 1/2 price candy is gonna' cost you plenty!

What's your strategy? Seriously, what will you do after the Belly Bustin' Bingeing Season Kick-Off? What's your plan, your strategy to get through the holidays without gaining weight?

Post below!!!! and check out The Christmas Diet!

Spread the word, NOT the icing!

Weight Loss Tip: The Perfect Snack

Sunflower Lady
The Good Seed by Janice Taylor, Life & Wellness Coach, Cert. Hypnotist, Author, Columnist, Seminar Leader and 50-Pound Big-Time-Loser! (write Janice for FREE LIFE Consult!)

Are you in search of a low-cal, low-fat, long lasting, healthy and satisfying treat that satiates while it supplies significant amounts of vitamin E, magnesium and selenium? I thought so.

Want to know how I have managed to maintain a 50-pound big-time-loss for over 7 years? I'll tell you how! By plannin' and pickin' the right snacks that satisfy on a multitude of levels.

Want to know how I saved my marriage? By keeping a healthy snack in the cabinet that he likes, too! Can you hear him crackin' those seeds open? (He is a tad noisy, but that's another story.)

Sunflower Seeds!
Bang for Your Calorie Buck: 162 calories per one ounce serving.

These nutty little beauties come from the seed-studded center of the incredibly spectacular sunflower. The flower manufactures grayish-green or black seeds that are encased in gray or black shells. The seeds are high in oil and are one of our main sources of polyunsaturated oil - one of the good fats.

Sunflower seeds are a good source of:

Vitamin E - an important vitamin that passes through your body and deactivates free radicals that damage fat-containing structures and molecules, such as cell membranes, brain cells and cholesterol;

Magnesium - helps reduce the severity of asthma, lowers high blood pressure and prevents migraines, as well as reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke. Magnesium is also necessary for healthy bones, and magnesium calms your nerves.

Selenium - helps to induce DNA repair and synthesis in damaged cells, inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells.

NOTE: Sunflower seeds should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator as their fat content is high, making them prone to rancidity.

How to Eat Sunflower Seeds:
Crack the shell with your teeth, eat the seed and spit the shell.
Something to Strive For: An experienced seed chewer can fling a handful of sunflower seeds in their mouth, pocket them in the side of their cheek, extract the kernels from the shells one by one using their teeth, and tongue, and spit out the hard shell.

JigSaw Sundae: you are . . . BEYOND MEASURE

Click to Mix and Solve

In a world that measures everything by the numbers ... from Janice Taylor, Life & Wellness Coach, Certified Hypnotist, Author, Columnist, Seminar Leader and 50-Pound Big-Time-Loser.

Okay ... my personal ... WEIGHTY CONFESSION!
When I was losing weight (vs. being 'on' maintenance a.k.a. the mini-see-saw), I was obsessed with the scale and my measurements. If the scale didn't budge, I took out the tape measure and quickly wrapped it tight around my waist or thighs, manipulating the numbers.

Then one day, Our Lady of Weight Loss spoke to me (again)! And she said, "For goodness sake, stop measuring your self worth by the numbers. YOU are beyond measure."

Holy Light Bulb Moment! I went into "Edward Scissorhands" mode. Scissors in hand, I cut up the tape measure into 6 1/2 inch pieces - made bracelets - and have been wearing them ever since.

Photographed here - draped around the 'neck' of my inner-doll, having a light-bulb moment of her own!

Isn't it good to know that in a world that measures everything by the numbers ... from your height, weight and waist to your BMI ... from your age to your salary ...
that YOU ARE ~ BEYOND MEASURE!

Spread the word, NOT the icing!

The Flower Remedy: Lose Weight Now

ol-of-edible-flowers.gif

Flower Power: Visual, Smell & Taste - A Complete Diet Package! by Janice Taylor, Life & Wellness Coach, Cert. Hypnotist, Author, Columnist, & 50-pound Big-Time-Loser! (write Janice for free consult)

The taste and pleasure we derive from eating is linked to our visual senses. In other words, the more visually appealing the meal, the more satisfying the experience. One way to add beauty and elegance, but not calories to our meals, is to slice, dice, toss, chop or stuff food with edible flowers.

Edible flowers first came onto the scene around 140 BC. They were used to heighten the flavor and add to the texture of foods when spices were not available.

Edible flowers turn the simplest of meals into a special occasion. Add flowers to your soups and salads, float them in your punch bowl or freeze them in ice cubes. Cook with them.

You can purchase edible flowers in the produce section at the (gourmet) grocery store. Or, you can grow your own. (A fun activity which gets you out of the kitchen!) For the best flavor, pick flowers when they are beginning to open, in the cool of the morning. Be sure to remove the pistils and stamens. Gently wash and dry them on a paper towel. Eat only the petals. Remember, not all flowers are edible - some are poisonous. If in doubt - please, leave it out!

Here is a partial list of Incredible Edibles. Many are common flowers that may be growing in your garden right now!

nasturtiums * roses * marigolds * viola * pansies * apple blossoms * calendulas * carnations * honeysuckle * tulip petals * tuberous begonia * lilacs * dianthus * hibiscus * violets * day lily * primrose * petunia
