An 88-year-old man, James W. von Brunn, who is apparently known as a white supremacist, shot a security guard at the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington this afternoon–near the Smithsonian and across the Mall from the White House.
The Washington Post has complete coverage (and graphic at right), and CNN too.
A gunman armed with a shotgun walked into the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in downtown Washington today and opened fire on a security guard before being shot and seriously wounded by two other guards, authorities said.
The security guard and the gunman were both transported to George Washington University Hospital with serious injuries, police said. A hospital spokesperson declined to release information on the condition of the two.
Scott Roeder warned of more violence to come, though perhaps this isn’t what he had in mind. But the Department of Homeland Security also warned this stuff was coming, and got hammered for it.
Anyway, it seems Mr. von Brunn shows us you’re never too old to hate.

My heart goes out to the security guard, his friends and his family.
I hope he survives this and returns to health.
I can only hope that this man’s actions are the result of senility. I shall pray for him as well.
How many more must suffer and die before the conservative Christians realize what their hatred has loosed upon us?

Unfortunately as you probably know by now, Panthera, the guard died. The shooter as far as I know, is still alive. I suspect the shooter is not senile…he was carrying out his hate, something he seems to have held for a long, long time, if the news reports are correct.
Sympathy to the guard’s family and friends. He performed his duty well, and may have saved the lives of others in the area.
