The abortion doc killer and the 9/11 “mastermind”…More strange pairings? Maybe not. Bin Laden has been stuck in a cave in Waziristan or thereabouts for a few years, sending out audiotapes of threats periodically when he feels he needs attention–such as when President Obama addressed the Muslim world from Cairo last week. In that tape, Osama said Obama “and his administration have sown new seeds to increase hatred and revenge on America.”
Or maybe it’s the opposite, hence the bravado.
Which brings us to Scott Roeder, who apparently loves to talk to the Associated Press. He called the wire service twice Sunday morning, and in the course of the chats said he was just the leading edge of a wave of anti-abortion violence:
“I know there are many other similar events planned around the country as long as abortion remains legal.”
Roeder would not elaborate. Maybe not much to say, actually. Like bin Laden launching verbal darts from the canyons around Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan. Let’s hope.
But Roeder was chatty about the “deplorable conditions in solitary” where he was kept during his first three days there.
Roeder said it was freezing in his cell. “I started having a bad cough. I thought I was going to have pneumonia,” he said.
He said he called AP because he wanted to emphasize the conditions in the jail so that in the future suspects would not have to endure the same conditions.
Roeder also said he wanted the public to know he has been denied phone privileges for the past two days, and needed his sleep apnea machine.
Not exactly “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.” Troy Newman, president of the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, told The Associated Press that Roeder is ”a fruit and a lunatic.”
I think he meant “fruitcake,” but then that would be redundant.

It sounds like it’s time to use the conservatives’ and Obama’s enhanced interrogation methods to determine exactly what this terrorist knows.
We might have a ticking bomb here, and that sounds like an acceptable use of those means, according to the apologists.

True…I wonder where all the torture advocates are on this one. Here we have a terrorist saying that he knows of other bombings/acts of violence that are planned. It’s a perfect scenario for Cheney and his apologists. This is EXACTLY what they said was justification for torture.
Where are their voices on this?

If Mr. Roeder doesn’t like his accomodations, I’m sure we can find alternative arrangements. I seem to remember we used to ship terrorists to places like Syria. I’m sure their prison system could help him get “settled.”

Abortion is murder….no getting around it, but also, murder is murder…can’t get around that one either…. but we can do without giving this murderer public news recognition 24/7 which seems to be what he craves most…. He’s not really against abortion, he craves attention and he’s getting what he craves most…..wonder why?

If he were Muslim would you be saying the same thing? Or would you be wanting the government to go ahead and torture him to see what he knows?
I thought the whole idea here was the ticking time bomb scenario…this is supposed to be the conservative’s nightmare if we abandon torture as a weapon. Well…here we have it.
Of course, this guy is a white male who happens to be Christian, instead of a darker-skinned male who happens to be Muslim. Apparently that makes all the difference to some.
