Prayer, Plain and Simple

Pray and Believe

posted by nsymmonds

“So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24

I have been living this scripture for the last few weeks unlike I have ever lived it in my life. You see, a few weeks ago, my apartment received some unwelcome visitors. Visitors who, as of lately and thanks to the banning of DDT, are not uncommon to the urban dwellers here in New York City. No, it wasn’t a “Joe’s Apartment” situation. It was more of a “Goodnight, sleep tight, don’t let the ____ ____ bite.” Yeah, I had THAT problem. That problem made me lose sleep for nearly two weeks and it made me sick. So like any good urban dweller, my roommates and I commenced to calling the authorities in to eradicate the problem. We had to turn our lives upside down in order to get our lives right side up. Through all of this I kept thinking, “There must be something else. How can I just trust human authority when I feel like it desires a bigger remedy?”

So I let the human folks do their job and got some sleep. Sleep, but I didn’t rest. I thought that we didn’t have a problem anymore until my roommates let me know they were still being affected. This was the day before we were having a follow-up appointment to make sure our problem was eradicated or eradicating. It was the last straw for me and I knew what I had to do. The night before our follow up, my roommates and I prayed. It started out as two of us, and as I listened, I sensed God telling me this needed the unification of the three of us. So there, in my bedroom, the three of us gathered and I prayed. I pleaded the purifying blood of Jesus over the apartment and everything in it. With authority I claimed eradication of our pests, the healing of our bodies and the restoration of our faith in God to work it out. I really believed and still believe everything I prayed for–down to the part where I said that I think our pests were the spawn of the devil. Even though to some it might sound a little crazy to pray to God about pests, I really do believe that he worked and is working in the situation.

That was all just one week ago. I have been sleeping but most importantly, I have been able to find my rest by trusting in God. I wanted to share this story with you to remind you that one of the biggest parts of prayer is sealing it up with belief. Prayer cannot be effective until we believe that what we ask for we will receive. But to also remember that when we ask, we cannot ask amiss. It is always in God’s will and in Jesus’ name that we pray. So here’s to believing that I am pest free and so will the new place that I move into in two weeks be!

I believe!

Most major religions in the world involve prayer in one way or another in their rituals. Although in many cases the act of prayer is ritualized and must be followed through a sometimes strict sequence of actions (even going as far as restricting who may pray), other religions, mainly the Abrahamic religions, teach that prayer can be done spontaneously by anyone at any moment.

Sometimwes I pray earnestly for something , not money, not material things, but for something to happen in my life or mostly my grandchildren,s life and it just doesn’t happen. I know in my heart it would be in their best interest but it doesn’t happen. Then I begin to wonder if God is listening to me or if He is even in my presence. How do I know He is listening? How do I know I am getting through to Him.

WHEN WE PRAY,WE NEED TO BELIEVE WE RECEIVED IT,WE SPEAK WITH OUR MOUTH AND BELIEVE IN OUR HEARTS.GOD REQUIRES PRAYERS FROM HIS CHILDREN
AS A LOVING FATHER GRANTING HIS CHILDREN’S DESIRES,BUT HE KNOWS WHAT AND WHEN TO GRANT YOUR PETITIONS,HE’S A LOVING FATHER WATCHING OVER YOU AND ME.

I know how the grandmother feels, that her prayers are NOT answered in the way she asked them. But – sometimes prayers are answered, “Not yet,” and we have to fervently believe that the time will come when God DOES answer your prayers. I agree that we have to have both BELIEF and FAITH when we pray, and not to ask for mundane things that we can solve ourselves. He has answered many a prayer of mine, even before I ask him. “Ask, and ye shal receive. Knock and it shall be opened to you.” He knows your wants and needs BEFORE you ask Him, but – be sure to ask just to reinforce His love.

Prayer, in many ways is a verbal account with God and his ability to answer and provide the desires of our hearts. I believe that when we are expecting a prayer to be answered and it is not in our time, we get discouraged (we lose faith) and that deactivates the power of readiness to deliver what you requested. I believe that we all already have what we desire in our hearts we are just to full of fear to recongize our abilites to heal, to change, to succeed. I believe that at creation since God is all knowing he has and always will know what you need before even you know what you need, is to say that is to say that he has already provided.
Everyday I learn more about me and about the God that I serve, one thing that I do know is that he is an unselffish god. His mercy is uspeakable and his grace even i dont deserve but I do know that he loves me and most importantly he loves you. Be blessed, even a mustard seed size faith is good enough for God, use you god given power to change the things that you wish to change.

Patience is awaiting for God’s time without doubting God’s love. Our weakness + His strength = moving mountains

I so enjoyed this! No matter what the “pest” is in life this still stands true! God only wants the best for us and when we pray in His alignment, I BELIEVE He will provide the answers and resolution we need.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful story.
