Thanksgiving Prayer: Gratitude is the Fountain of Youth!

posted by Mark Herringshaw | 8:49am Monday November 16, 2009

Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-

Who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s…  Psalm 103

Everyone wants the fountain of youth. Supposedly, Ponce de Leon discovered Florida looking for the secret of eternal youth. Millions still go there every January with the same ambition. Yes, staying young is big business.

The Bible has a simpler and cheaper solution: Gratitude and thanks. In his 3,000 year old poem (we call it Psalm 103 in the Bible) King David tells himself to “Praise the Lord,” and “don’t forget his benefits” – another way of saying, “Be thankful to God.” One of the benefits of remembering God’s benefits, those things he’s already given us, is that our “youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” In other words, gratitude lifts us above and through the winds of adversity, as an eagle sores through and above the storm. With thankfulness we fly.

There is now scientific evidence to support what David demonstrated so long ago. Thankfulness and gratitude is good for our health. It makes us young again.

Dr. Jeffry Froh, Assistant Psychology Professor at Hofstra University, There may be measurable, scientific benefits to the American tradition of giving thanks. In study of college students Froh found that “Students who counted blessings were less likely to report headaches, stomach aches, pains in the body.” Gratitude works. Praising God for his goodness keeps us young… forever! It’s literally a “fountain of youth for all eternity!

“God, we thank you for the benefits of life that you have given us. We will not forget that you are the source of all good things. We know that this is not only right to acknowledge – it is the truth – but it is also beneficial to acknowledge. When we give honor to whom honor is due – you – we reap great benefits in our lives. Gratitude rejuvenates our bones and releases our anxieties and worries into your hands. Thank you, God. We say this in Jesus’ name.”

How true it is to always give thanks to the Lord, who gives all good things, His love and protection and satifies all our needs. To put him first and to be thankful. And as easy as it may sound it is something I need to be doing more often.

GOD is Great! I can’t thank Him enough for the things He has done for me & I encourage anyone to trust & believe in God’s goodness. Even when we can’t see how wonderful He is to us He is. He tells us when we pray to pray believing & to pray always, not just when we need something. God knows what we need even before we ask for it but He still wants us to come before Him with thankgiving in our hearts & love one another. God answers prayers every minute of every day. It’s just that we are so hung up on our wants & not our needs & we don’t want to work for our wants. We want them given to us without any effort on our part & I don’t even ask for my ‘wants’ when I pray because to me that’s being selfish.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that God is the only person I can trust & believe in to help me out in my time of need & I would never ever turn my back on Him when I don’t get what I want.
God bless you all…

GOD is so awesome. It seems when I can’t be amazed at His glory, He speaks to me in some way and amazes me even more. How for so long I took his graciousness and love for granted. The best feeling in the world to me is to be praying about or thinking about something and God finds a way to put someone or something in your path that is a direct answer to your need. It is enough to give you chills. Sometimes I would get angry wondering where God was and why he wasn’t in my life like I wanted. But as I get older and grow in Him, I realize, GOD is always there and always will be there. God is the only constant anyone will ever have in their life. If something has changed and you don’t feel God’s presence in your life it is not because he has walked away from you. It is because you have walked away from him, too far to hear His Word or feel His Presence. How I desperately long for everyone in this world to fall on their knees and declare their love and faith in him. Once you are in His graces, life will never be the same again and that could be the best change that anyone could ever hope for! God Bless everyone and thank you to God for loving me enough to send your only Son to die for me. How I hope to live my life fully for you and to never feel that He died in vain for me because I am not living out God’s will in my life.

I praise God for saving my life. Jesus is the Saviour of my life and I will praise his wonderful name always. There is no way I could survive without God’s amazing grace. I pray that all unsaved will hear the word of God and fall down on their knees, ask forgiveness for their sins and be saved. God is not willing that anyone should perish. I thank God for the joy he has given me and look forward to Jesus Christ return. God Bless You All.
