21 Ways to Pray: Right off the Front Page

posted by Mark Herringshaw

It seems like there’s always more bad news than good. Take today. Yes, it’s Christmas and where I live, a “white Christmas” at that. But all is not cheer and good will. Just read the paper, or these days, the news link on your favorite website.

Today the headlines are:

Feuding politicians in Washington

A brewing revolution in Iran

A volcano in the Philippines

Another suicide bombing in Pakistan

A dust storm in Arizona

Does God care? Indeed. Instead of wringing our hands, let’s pray. Praying off the front page is a great way to “feel” empowered and to release our fears and concerns to God. He can do something!

“God, the world is not as you intend. Instead of worrying, we will pray. You’re concerned about the economy, about unemployment, about people suffering from sickness and disease, war and natural disasters. You care about bringing this wayward world under your charge. So we know that when we pray, we’re agreeing with what you already desire. We ask for your intrusion into the troubles of this world. And we’ll trust you to make a difference. In Jesus…”

Check out the other “21 Ways to Pray” in a special Beliefnet devotional I’ve written. And as always, feel free to add in your own perspectives.

A Prayer for a True Yankee Hero
Christian Lopez could have made a “cool” fifty thousand dollars… at least. Instead, he didn’t ask for a single thing. And that is the real “cool” in the story. Lopez happened to be sitting in the left field seats at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, July 9th when Derek Jeter hit a towering

A Prayer for Rain
Torrential rains this week brought a first-relief to drought-stricken Texas. But much more is needed if the southern states of the US are to escape the historic dry spell that has gripped the region most of the year. Praying for rain seems fitting. “God, you send rains in season. It is a season o

Your Name

No matter what,we are to engrave into our hearts and minds that God is good, all the time ,and all the time God is soooo gooooooddddddd!!!
My prayer,O God,o loving father,i give you praise and worship for the coming of the season as always each year that is passing.I ask you God to renew our minds everyday, renew our strength, our hopes, our dreams and most especially our hearts that all the time ,we may all be adding more love upon ourselves first, next to our fellowmen, but above all, bless us with so much love upon you.Let me not forget during the times of trials and difficulties of life, you are always there, you said in your word like the footprints in the sand, where we see only one set of footprints, and you said, when there’s one footprints we see in the sand, its because you are carrying us.I bless
you God with all the love you are capable of giving,to me and to the entire human race.I thank you God each and every human being giving
and sharing love, because you are that love being shared. In Jesus name,i pray, amen.
