Prayer for Victims of Indian Train Accident

posted by Mark Herringshaw

Monday: A speeding express train plowed into a stationary passenger train in eastern India, killing 61 people. The crash hit with such force that it hurled the roo of one of the train cars onto an overpass above the tracks. In the moments following local residents residents began crawling over the twisted wreckage trying desperately to free survivors before rescue workers arrived. Many more are reported injured; more deaths are likely to be reported.

Darker side: Officials have not ruled out sabotage. Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee raised the possibility that the crash could have been another case of terrorism. Two months ago Maoist rebels derailed a train that killed 145 people.

“God, we pray for the victims of this train accident in India. Bless and heal the survivors. Bless and comfort the families of those who have been killed. Give rescue workers favor to find and save any who are still trapped. Give officials quick wisdom to find the cause. If it is terrorism, bring swift justice. Intervene and break the grip of the Maoist rebels in India. Violence and terror is never your way or will. Even when there are injustices to right, there are peaceful means. Fix those injustices, Lord, without violence. Heal India. Bring about your purposes there. In Jesus…”

What do you expect if a lady like Mamta Bannerjee is the central railway minister. All she is concerned about is becoming the chief minister of a state. She has been and will continue to neglect her prime duty come what may and railways will be going to the dogs in times to come. But does it really matter in India? Lives come cheap but power is expensive. So let be it.
