The Current of History Meets a New Tide of Hope
Michele Obama made a beautiful speech tonight. Her life story was new to me and equally moving to the now more familiar story of Barack Obama. She was so intelligent, passionate and attractive that it made me wonder for a moment if we had selected the wrong Obama.
She reminded us that this same week we are marking the anniversary of both the struggle of women to obtain the right to vote and Martin Luther King, Jr' "I have a Dream" speech. It is important to remember when we look back on those events that there was conservative religious opposition to those movements. And it is equally important to remember that they were wrong. 'The arc of history is long but bends towards justice' King famously said. "The current of history meets a new tide of hope' said Michele Obama tonight. We are working towards a better future and for God's realm to be known here on earth. It makes me proud to be a religious progressive.
After listening to Michelle Obama's speech once and reading the transcript twice thereafter I can help but wonder how small a man George Bush is (remember "mission accomplished"!) and how did we tolerate him in our living rooms for eight years. Also, I always thought that McCain was man of character but his recent negative campaign against Obama makes me think that he is no different from George Bush Sr. of Willie Horton fame and George Bush Jr of swift boat fame. Beware!

Michelle Obama's speech was wonderful and well delivered. The Obama children were typically cute and outspoken in their love of their father. McCain's attack dogs can't find any ammunition to use against Obama form last night's speeches.
The man of character and maverick of the GOP has become a barking dog and has not only lost his vision for America but is blinded by Corporate America.
The "New" message is the "Lost" message of working America. WE need jobs, health and prosperity for the "Everyman" and not just the few "select" of the power mongers.
If you believe in America you can change America. If you can change America you can build an America you can believe in.
