When Generosity, Love, and Kindness are Public Policy, the Violence We Saw in Arizona will Dramatically Diminish
The attempted assassination of Congresswoman Giffords and the murder of so many others in Arizona has elicited a number of policy suggestions, from gun control to private protection for elected officials, to banning incitement to violence on websites either directly or more subtly (e.g., Sarah Palin

The Spiritual Messages of Chanukah and Christmas -- and Their Downsides
Christmas and Chanukah share a spiritual message: that it is possible to bring light and hope in a world of darkness, oppression and despair. But whereas Christmas focuses on the birth of a single individual whose life and mission was itself supposed to bring liberation, Chanukah is about a national

Obama (and Biden) Have No Clue About What's Bothering Their Political Base
Shortly before the California Democratic primary in 2008, the San Fransisco Chronicle invited me to write a short article explaining why I, chair of the interfaithNetwork of Spiritual Progressives, was supporting Barack Obama. Like most other progressive activists, I understood that a pres

Values or Partisanship? TV Ad calls out Graham for caving on climate
by Keely Brewster It was disappointing that Lindsey Graham changed his mind, values, and opinions surrounding climate legislation. Lindsey Graham was right when he discussed the need to decrease our dependence on foreign oil for reasons of national security, economic security, and job loss. Lindsey

It is as if a lot of politicians have a vested interest in not seeing the absurdity of their arguments and their defense of the blatantly indefensible Israeli assault on Gaza’s people.
The Hamas rockets have killed how many Israelis? Last I heard it was zero, in the last several weeks leading up to the Anschluss.
Israeli attacks on Gaza have already killed over 500 and wounded hundreds more.
Disproportional is a mild understatement.

The rockets have been going on for years and have killed countless Israelis. Israel is not responsible for the innocent deaths, it is Hamas for using their own people as shields and then crying out that they’re dying. Israel has not treated the Palestinians badly, it is their own fault for their situation.

I thought Jon showed his intelligence and bravery on the Jan 5th show. He doesn’t care that he was the only person on American television who showed a different side to the war on Gaza. On the contrary; he pointed out the news channe extreme bias.
I always liked him, but I never respected him more.
Go Jon!

Less than 15 Israelis have been killed by the rocket fire in the last 13 years. Israel has murdered that many people in the past hour.
Stop with the “Hamas is to blame” BS, it’s been committed to FOUR (4) truces with Israel in the past 4 years (since 2004) and none of these four have been respected by Israel.
People need to wake up! english.aljazeera.net … Read something different!

Hey Jon, Pocahantas called, she wants her house back, unless you don’t practice what you preach…I am a devoted Daily Show fan so this caught me off guard.
To Mae: When someone is throwing bombs at your house, I hope your government does something about it. Are you this critical of US in Afghanistan or is that justified? How about if India bombs Pakistan for what happened in Mumbai?
For some reason Israel’s right to defend itself is a war crime.

So Susannah, what you’re saying is what was good for the European invasion/settlement of the Americas and the resulting ghettoization, dehumanization, and genocide visited upon Native American cultures, is now good for Israel and the Palestinian people? You’re saying humankind hasn’t progressed or evolved any since those deeply regrettable days? We haven’t learned anything? And we didn’t all arrive at pefect clarity on this darkest potential of human nature, oh, sometime back in World War II??? You know what I’m talking about, right?????
Your one-sided defense of Israel’s immoral policies regarding the Palestinian people is sickening. The fact that you’re saying “But heyyyy, that’s what the American settlers did…so it’s ok for Israel to do it now” is truly despicable. You dishonor the memories of genocide victims both here in America and in Europe. SHAME ON YOU.
Look into the events (starting back in 1948) that led to the current situation in Gaza. Look at the timing of it, in relation to Israel’s upcoming election, and our upcoming inauguration. Do it honestly, and unencumbered by whatever cultural baggage you may have been carrying since birth, and you’ll see that those primitive rockets launched by Hamas aren’t the real reason Israel is reining real-live Hell down on the civilians of Gaza.
