When Generosity, Love, and Kindness are Public Policy, the Violence We Saw in Arizona will Dramatically Diminish
The attempted assassination of Congresswoman Giffords and the murder of so many others in Arizona has elicited a number of policy suggestions, from gun control to private protection for elected officials, to banning incitement to violence on websites either directly or more subtly (e.g., Sarah Palin

The Spiritual Messages of Chanukah and Christmas -- and Their Downsides
Christmas and Chanukah share a spiritual message: that it is possible to bring light and hope in a world of darkness, oppression and despair. But whereas Christmas focuses on the birth of a single individual whose life and mission was itself supposed to bring liberation, Chanukah is about a national

Obama (and Biden) Have No Clue About What's Bothering Their Political Base
Shortly before the California Democratic primary in 2008, the San Fransisco Chronicle invited me to write a short article explaining why I, chair of the interfaithNetwork of Spiritual Progressives, was supporting Barack Obama. Like most other progressive activists, I understood that a pres

Values or Partisanship? TV Ad calls out Graham for caving on climate
by Keely Brewster
It was disappointing that Lindsey Graham changed his mind, values, and opinions surrounding climate legislation. Lindsey Graham was right when he discussed the need to decrease our dependence on foreign oil for reasons of national security, economic security, and job loss. Lindsey

Warren’s action here looks like an application of caring for “the least of these.”
These folks lost their church buildings because of their bigotry, following a long losing campaign in the national church over the issue of LGBT rights. It takes overwhelming majorities there to make new policy. They are a small minority–i.e., the “least” of the Anglicans in the U.S.A.

I think churches breaking fellowship over the issue of promoting sin is justified. God defines sin not man and the spirit of the age is a difficult thing to resist, but resisted in must be. Should we then accept adultery as commonplace? It seems a lot more people are adulterers than homosexuals. And to follow the perverse logic of not calling homosexuality a sin because so many do would lead to the same place for adultery or any other sin for that matter.

God defines sin not man…
…and all you ahve to go on are the writings of long-dead *men* to tell you how God has defined it.
I love how quickly Christianists fall back on their mythology to justify their bigotry.

“Just as he took the side of the anti-gay bishops in Africa, Rick Warren has welcomed the anti-gay churches in America who are choosing to leave the Episcopal church only because of the wider church’s inclusions of Gay people.”
Well, he’s consistent. I’ll give him that much.
Does anyone else get the feeling when it came time to pick someone for the inauguration ceremony, Obama just went with the first name that popped into his head that wasn’t Jeremiah Wright?

What all the anti-Warren whiners fail to appreciate is, Rick Warren is light years ahead of Dobson and crowd on LGBT issues. And unless you believe that frank homophobes of Dobson’s ilk will suddenly start marching in the streets demanding gay marriage, Obama’s incremental approach is the way to go. Some gays and lesbians not only lack rights, they lack brains.

Since when does Rick Warren think he’s “all that”? Recently the press has begun calling him “America’s Pastor”. Frankly, what he believes I really don’t care — Rick Warren means nothing to me.
Even though I was ‘rooting’ for him before most people knew who he was, President Obama DID make a big mistake in having Rev. Warren do the Inagural Prayer. He is NOT “America’s Pastor”, nor does he speak for most Americans.

Rick and his phony friends are marketeers, false prophets and “ear ticklers”, perfect for a generation moving headlong into damnation. God will not be mocked! Without repentance, America is finished.
