Wednesday January 7, 2009

Max Blumenthal on Daily Beast digs deeper into the work of Rick Warren in Africa.

"Team Obama likes to cite Warren's work on AIDS in Africa to combat criticism about the controversial pastor. But how does burning condoms in the name of Jesus save lives?"

But abstinence and faithful-based efforts in Uganda have had a strong impact on the AIDS epidemic there, much more than the distribution of condoms. And, faith-based organizations have been turned away by Population Service International - described as a condom marketing firm in congressional testimony - who do not agree with Ssempa's anti-condom message, for obvious reasons. PSI is funded to sell condoms to Africans. Abstinence billboards in Uganda have been replaced by billboards extolling the "strong" and "smooth" qualities of condoms. Yet, the 2005 testimony before the committee shows clearly that both are needed to stem the tide of AIDS in Africa.

I always thought Warren was a really bad decision for the Inauguration, But after reading this I literally feel physically ill about him now...

Sort of like the (Pentecostal) parents that were angry with me for preaching that condoms should be made available in high schools across America. Of course, that view was interpreted as an 'ok' for teens to have pre-marital sex!

Of course, I never said that high-school kids should be experimenting with pre-marital sex!

Parents -- what world are you living in? It's true, we DON'T want our high-school aged children experimenting with sex. We DON'T want them to "do it" pre-maritally. However, they ARE experimenting with it, and lots of high-school guys and gals have rigorous sex lives BEFORE marriage. That being the case, should they not be as safe as possible?
