Just over three months ago the American people elected Barack Obama as our president because we believed he was uniquely equipped with the vision to lead in this time of economic and global crisis. America - let Obama lead.
Our government can and will do good things for the American people if we support the stimulus package presented by the president. As President Obama said in his inauguration address – we don’t want big government or small government, we want smart government. Americans have moved beyond the old liberal (big) vs. conservative (no) argument on government and so should Congress. We will be getting smart government with the power to rebuild America if we support the President’s stimulus package.
In addition to broader economic goals, the spending is necessary in order to stem the suffering that is happening right now in our country. Home loss, job loss, poverty, hunger, lack of health care, and all of this is getting worse. We need to act fast and we need to act boldly to help our fellow citizens in need. Just as religious people supported FDR’s new deal, religious people especially should be pushing for the stimulus package as part of our understanding of our responsibility to our neighbor.
The country gave the Republicans the opportunity to lead for eight years and the result was a stunning repudiation of the GOP. If Barack Obama and the Democrats fail, then vote them out. But in the meantime, contact your congressional leader and tell them that you support the President, and his economic stimulus package.

President Obama is doing just as he said he would before we elected him. The only ones yelling are the Republicans who put us where we are now. They should add to the bipartisan conversation if they have any new ideas that they didn’t use in the last eight years.

I support President Obama’s plan. Rush Limbaugh is the one who stated that he hopes Obama fails. Considering the economic mess and 2 wars, anybody who makes a statement like that obviously does not care about our country. He’s probably so rich that he thinks the economy is not his problem.

I DO NOT support the stimulas bill as it has millions and millions of ear marks that do not provide a stimulas for our country but a pay back for votes. Please educate yourself on the bill and what is in before you provide your opionion. We all care about the country and what is going to get us moving out of the recession which is not paying for ACORN or a water park or pork project in speaker Nancy’s home town. Read the bill!

Looks like Carolyn is taking her marching orders from Rush. As Nobel prize winning economist Paul Krugman said today in the New York Times:
A not-so-funny thing happened on the way to economic recovery. Over the last two weeks, what should have been a deadly serious debate about how to save an economy in desperate straits turned, instead, into hackneyed political theater, with Republicans spouting all the old clichés about wasteful government spending and the wonders of tax cuts.

common sences tell’s me it takes money to put people back to work so if the money is not there how do we put people back to work. the GOP’s don’t care unless there something in there for them. this country is supposed to be about we the people not me,i,or a few of my friends.

C’mon folks, let’s not blame Limbaugh or the right for the problems with this “stimulus” bill.
The non-partisan CBO has analyzed the thing and come out with the conclusion that NO BILL would be better for the economy than this monster of a plan. The only thing bi-partisan about the vote in the House was the opposition to the bill. Eleven Democrats voted against the thing, it turns out.
Obama is allowing himself to be led by the nose by those old crocodiles in Congress: Pelosi, Reid, Obey, Rangel, et. al. They’re eating his lunch, so to speak, and ruining his mandate.
Obama is a huge disappointment. This $1.3 trillion plan (when you include the cost of the debt service) is nothing more than “politics as usual.”
“Change You Can Believe In” ? That’s turning out to be nothing more than a faded campaign slogan.
C’mon, Obama, get control over your own administration!! You’re letting the Clinton cronies and all the “old pros” on Capitol Hill run rings around you.

Stimulus, as most economists have been supporting since the first checks went out list summer, means infrastructure. Roads, bridges, power grids, power plants, stuff that can put people to work. The problem, extending back to the Bush administration, was that these relief bills got larded up with tons of pet projects that had stalled in Congress. It’s not “the spending” that is necessary, it’s specific, targeted spending that is required and is getting lost very quickly – and responsible citizens must demand this accountability from their leaders, including the new president. If President Obama rolls over on this, then he will fail his first test of leadership – his party controls Congress, to he can’t blame the Republicans.
From where I’m standing, this really looks like “new players, but the same old politics” that Washington does so well. If looting the treasury is change, then maybe it is time to launch recall petitions…

I DO Not support Obamas’ Stimulus plan. I do agree with Carolyn and Emilie views and comments. Majority Obamas’ voters had no clue as to what is happening with our government. Be informed. You will find there are or were ‘pork’inserted in the plan. The Dem are pushing scare tactics to pass this plan. So far, Obamas’ batting zero on the majority cabinet picks. Double standards running amok!
