TNR: Democrats don’t have what it takes to govern?

posted by michele | 4:38pm Wednesday October 31, 2007

Yeah, I agree :-)

“Forget ‘liberal’: Given a few more weeks like the ones congressional Democrats just endured, and the dreaded L-word they’ll be struggling to shake is ‘losers.’ Children’s health care, government spying, the atrocities of the Ottoman Empire, the toxic ramblings of Representative Pete Stark — you name the issue, Dems managed to get their clocks cleaned in the p.r. battle with a fractured Republican minority led by a lame-duck president only marginally more popular with the American public than Chinese toy manufacturers…. [W]hat in God’s name is wrong with congressional Dems? It’s one thing to lose all your battles when you’re the beleaguered minority crushed beneath the boot heel of a well-liked commander-in-chief and a power-mad congressional majority. But, when you can’t manage to win even one lousy spin cycle under the current politically felicitous circumstances, voters are going to start wondering if you simply don’t have what it takes to govern — if perhaps you really do deserve that 25 percent approval rating” — from an editorial in the latest New Republic magazine.

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Look at the things the Dems (or is that Dims?) have been trying to do — the SCHIP bill, the resolution condemning Turkey for genocide, the immigration amnesty, etc., all extremely foolish things to be attempting. They would have passed SCHIP if they had had control of the White House, but the others were things that were just plainly foolish and against the interests of the country. They do not have the brains to run the country, that is quite plain!

yet immigration amnesty is something that bush would sign. ironic. he’d veto health coverage for poor children to score political points yet hand over social welfare and amnesty to lawbreaking immigrants regardless of the cost. not even a flinch when asking for $600B for 5 years of war, death and destruction, but forget trying to squeeze $30B for 5 years of health for kids.democrats don’t have what it takes to drive the country six feet into the ground like the gop.

Sorry, your little “Bush hates children” meme didn’t fly. The public got that Congress was trying to backdoor universal healthcare by slipping in adults and children of affluent families.Bush is more than happy to spend the money on the kids but Pelosi would rather demigod then send him something he would sign. Typical.

get real.what statistics do you have to support your claims? i think you might actually learn something (including humility) by trying to find any.“The public got that Congress was trying to backdoor universal healthcare by slipping in adults and children of affluent families.”on the contrary, that’s republican talking-point bunk. the public overwhelmingly supports the congressional bill. any adults and “children of affluent families” covered by the plan were done so by petition, which bush himself had to approve. if you have problems with those cases, take it up with your president.to clarify the record, i never said that bush hates children. i didn’t have to. nobody’s buying the “new born fiscal conservative” bull either. his vetoes are political bombs against democrats and everybody knows it. only those without a conscience are okay with our children being casualties of that war.

81 Percent Support Expanding S-CHIP, Including A Majority Of Republicans“Eight in 10 Americans favor expanding the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, or S-CHIP, including large majorities of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents….More generally, the poll finds that only about one in five Americans (22 percent) approve of the president’s handling of health care. That’s lower even than his approval rating on Iraq (26 percent).”or this?Poll: Americans Support Children’s Health Program“Democrats overwhelmingly favored reauthorization (82 percent), as did independents (69 percent). But Republicans were very divided: A narrow majority (54 percent) said they support the expansion, while 41 percent were opposed.”you’ve misread what i wrote. adults are allowed by some states who have waivers that were approved by bush and hhs, so take it up with your man.“Coverage of groups beyond children under SCHIP is limited. The original SCHIP legislation permitted the Secretary of HHS to allow ‘Section 1115 Demonstration” waivers for alternative uses of SCHIP funds. Through waivers eleven states use SCHIP funds to cover parents, four states cover childless adults and 11 states use SCHIP funds to cover pregnant women through the option to define a fetus as an unborn child. In 2005, approximately 600,000 adults, compared to over 6 million children were covered by SCHIP. The Deficit Reduction Act enacted in February 2006 prohibits any new SCHIP waivers to cover childless adults.”here is a good primer for the cranial-rectosis inflicted. it would do you good to read it. drop your ignorant blah blah right-wing propaganda and get your facts straight.

Say, Anony, you need to get your words straight when you are making obscene insults. Do you not know the difference between “inflicted” and “afflicted”? You are not too sharp, but why should we be surprised at that?
