Sen. Charles Grassley Asks Ministries To Turn Over Financial Records

Tuesday November 6, 2007

Grassley's office is trying to determine if the prosperity gospel minsters are using the money from the ministries to fund lavish lifestyles. Doesn't he get that's the whole point of the prosperity gospel? Don't the congregations expect their ministers to flaunt the blessings of the Lord? Doesn't he know that Jesus wants Creflo Dollar to be rich? Why else would he be born into a name like that? Isn't it obvious that a name it and claim it gospel needs to be preached by those who've actually claimed something? (Do I even have to say that I'm being sarcastic? Though, if this is their religion, shouldn't it be tax exempt? Who would believe that God wants to shower us with wealth if the pastor's driving around in a Honda Civic? Shouldn't he at least be driving a BMW?)

CBS News has learned Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, is investigating six prominent televangelist ministries for possible financial misconduct.

Letters were sent Monday to the ministries demanding that financial statements and records be turned over to the committee by December 6th.

According to Grassley's office, the Iowa Republican is trying to determine whether or not these ministries are improperly using their tax-exempt status as churches to shield lavish lifestyles.

The six ministries identified as being under investigation by the committee are led by: Paula White, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, Eddie Long, Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn. Three of the six - Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland and Creflo Dollar - also sit on the Board of Regents for the Oral Roberts University.
