"As an engineer, I'm extremely impressed with his efficiency." Pretty funny! BTW, this guy sounds like me. I also spent a night writing a paper the night before it's was due and received an A minus. But that was college, if I did that now in seminary I wouldn't do that well.
With the advent of TV, Internet and radio, I really don't understand the need for a candidate to go from diner to diner shaking hands. I know everything I need to know about Thompson from his record and his policy statements, what more do you need? A kiss on your baby's cheek? A "hey how are you doing? How are those eggs?"
