“I decided to die like a man”

posted by Susan Johnson | 9:22am Thursday January 24, 2008

A tycoon fights against burglars who threaten his daughters life. He started hitting back and took their gun away (which they shouldn’t have had because possession of a gun is illegal in England).

A millionaire yesterday told how he fought off three armed burglars who were holding a knife to his daughter’s throat, saying he “would rather die like a man than a dog”.
Bernard Dwyer, 51, was convinced he and his family were about to be killed so he chose to take on the men – hours after they had allegedly killed a restaurant owner, a court heard.
[...]
Despite being threatened with a gun, stabbed three times in the head and beaten unconscious with a knuckle-duster, Mr Dwyer fought back as one of his attackers screamed “kill the b******”.
He managed to wrestle a gun from one of the masked raiders and chased them from his luxury home in Uxbridge, West London, in November 2006, the jury heard.

Seems the criminals weren’t used to their victim fighting back.

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

This is the only way we will see a reduction in crime, either in England or in the US. The police are worthless. They are always there after the damage is done, the people are murdered, and they poke around looking oh so official, but no one is ever charged. If they were all to be murdered, he would be no more dead from fighting them than from being passively stabbed to death, and as it turned out, he was able to turn the tables and stop the crime from being completed. More people need to be prepared to do just this, frightening as the thought may be. The police will be of even less value in the future than they are now, if you can imagine that!

I think we really have to over our passive response to crime. Though in England you can get in trouble for fighting back.

The way things are in Britain I would not be surprised if he gets prosecuted for beating up on the criminals and violating their civil rights.
