Don’t call Barack Obama liberal!

posted by Susan Johnson | 8:37pm Tuesday February 26, 2008

He doesn’t like it. Oh, poor Obama! That is really too bad because he’s about to wear it like a name tag. He is going to be called a McGovern liberal from now until November so many times in so many ways, a daily drumbeat of stories about his liberalism in the conservative media (and hopefully ads). He’ll just have to learn to embrace the label the way he’s embraced the policies:

In his radio and TV ads that are blanketing Texas, Barack Obama claims a chief executive can make more money “in 10 minutes” than an ordinary worker makes in a year. Obama wants to end the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, enact a national health plan, offer a $4,000-a-year tuition reimbursement in exchange for national service, and have the government intervene to prevent home foreclosures.
But he doesn’t want anyone to call him a liberal.
For despite Obama’s vow to build a working majority for change – to win a clear mandate for his progressive agenda, rather than engage in Clinton-like “triangulation” – he’s not yet willing to own the l-word.

Oh baby! You are going to own that word like a big ole scarlet letter!

One Final Word

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Supporter, Promoter, Encourager of Immorality, Marxist Communist, Gnostic, False Prophet, Odd-Racist, Harvard Elitist, Social Darwinian, Humanist, Wolf in Sheep’s clothing, Executioner of individual freedoms . . ., there are may “other” valid labels describing what Obama “is.” No matter the attempt to neologism away what the guy really is, he cannot hide the fact that he wants America to disappear from history.

Nonsense. He merely wants America’s history to be more than the history of rich white men subjugating the rest of the world.
What, exactly, is wrong with that?

America’s future, let’s have no further talk of rewriting history! Good grief.

The blatant racism of this post is so overt that it’s disgusting. Why don’t you just go get some white hoods and nooses? Join the 21st century, people.

Racist? Are you insane? You’re only calling it that because I’m white. If I were black, you would just look at this as a difference between conservatives and liberals. You are the racist, not me.

He’s black and you’re white. Therefore any criticism of him by you is racist. There is no other possiblility. White conservatives are one-dimensional and easy to figure out.

I don’t think that Senator Obama has a problem with “the” title liberal, he has a problem with there being a title PERIOD. I think that it is time that we get away from “labeling” ideas. Do we as Americans really need anything else to further seperate us ie..democrat, republican, liberal, conservative…Is it possible that we may quite possibly have a combination of each “labels” ideas?! Not sure what Senator Obama’s claim about the amount of money a CEO makes has to do with him being called a liberal(?) Anyways, let’s try to come together so that we are on a better and more positive path than we are right now! I bet we can all agree on that! PEACE!!

We ought not calling him a liberal. He’s not, he’s a hard core leftist. Thomas Jefferson was a liberal, JFK was a liberal. Barack Obama is a lefist.

Why is that liberal? Does that mean the same amount of money (going to these programs) but spent on the war machine is conservative?
The labels are frustrating. But if you insist on labels, programs to help the middle class in America can be labeled common sense.

Leftists spend money on well-meaning but unconstitutional areas. Conservatives spend money on constitutional areas.

I am agreeing with you, Christopher. His idea of “change” is too much change for me, for most people.
But, we have a government of checks & balances, so, like any movement – feminism, civil rights, etc. – it requires a radical to shift the system a smidgen.

same old ,same old talk !I’m so sick of it! but I guess it will never change. OH how some of these so called” CHRISTIANS” go on about the christian message. My God’s message and his son Jesus Christ would be to help the poor, not give tax cits to the very wealthy , to share with those in need.I think he would say to help those help them selves, by giving a tuition reimbursent for college when they do two years of comminty service, sounds like a very godly idea to me! No; I hope we don’t continue wasting time and keeping us off the important messeges of ourtime. I don’t think leftist and liberals are bad words after all thats what they called JESUS!!!!!!! elaine

Where in the Bible does it say that the government should take care of the poor and pay for the tuition to college?

where in the constitution does it say that any social spending is prohibited? nothing like “interpreting” the constitution. i guess that you would consider social security and the new deal unconstitutional. why don’t you try to impeach the next president for supporting medicaid and see how far you get? maybe you should pay just the est. 54% of your federal tax that’s used to fund military and war and refuse to pay anything else. that’s pretty radical.
mr. taylor wouldn’t know a “hard core leftist” if he saw one. his political spectrum is so skewed that reagan seems liberal.
moonshadow, i’d disagree with you here: “most” of america, or a majority at least for now, want the changes that obama is talking about.

donny, you’re an idiot. some blacks are racist, but you’re a bona fide idiot to say that racism is only espoused by blacks and no other race. you can crawl back under your rock now.

Obama wants to end the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy,
_____________________________________________________________
Did you not get a check from Bush after he was elected?
Will you not get another check in less than a month?
Those of you that NEOCOMMS that got a check got a tax cut.
Are you wealthy?
_____________________________________________________________________
where in the constitution does it say that any social spending is prohibited?
_____________________________________________________________________
What?? Social spending is not the job of the government. It is the job of the Church. One of the problems is that is that NEOCOMMUNIST want to destroy religion and take religion out of schools and town hall meeting etc. where needs can be identified and presented to the Church.
Imagine if every body on your block grew a few vegetables and once a week these vegetables were gathered and taken to a soup kitchen.
I soon will be raising chickens and getting free range eggs.
I will sell what I can but the rest (several dozen per week) will be taken to a soup kitchen. This is just one example where people can provide for the poor WITHOUT government intervention.
a soup kitchen.
