One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1. She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life. A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments.

Through it, I have seen people reach out

People who ride subways deserve to get bugs. Let them drive cars like civilized people.

Go to New York, Michele! It’s a fantastic city & you’ll have a wonderful time. I used to live in Manhattan years ago & I still miss it.
I commuted to work every day on the subway. There you will see, in the words of the Book of Common Prayer, “all sorts and conditions of men.” I used to pray for my fellow passengers a lot on the subway; you can’t help observing people when you’re in such close quarters and you divine so much about their lives and the burdens they carry. It was a powerful spiritual experience, those transient moments shared in silence with my fellow human beings. God is in the subway right along with the bedbugs. (BTW, I don’t see how a bedbug survives on a bench–a termite, maybe, but a bedbug?)
Anyway, GO! You’ll have so much fun. Just wear really comfortable walking shoes. And don’t be afraid to ask for directions; New Yorkers are actually quite friendly, despite their reputation.

Actually, I’ve taken them before and had a good time. We usually go to the museum. I think maybe we should do something else but they always want to go there. We usually take the car but I was thinking it might be fun to take the train, we did it last time and we had a fun time walking around the city.

I read somewhere that 20% of the weight of a common matress is dust mites. And the average human is carrying around 30 pounds of bacteria in their bodies.
