Brits see no reason to pay green tax

posted by Susan Johnson | 9:29am Monday May 12, 2008

Congratulations to the Brits who have gotten it that this whole global warming thing is a yet another way to shake us down for tax money. And I’m glad the greens are upset, I’m tired of being ruled by them. Our gas prices are so high because of them. If they didn’t make the Democrats cower, then we would have gas pumping in the Gulf coast and ANWR by now (you people who say, “It would take 10 years for us to drill” can thank Clinton for not starting when he was in office — he vetoed drilling in ANWR). It’s about time we had a poll like this over here to see how much the public supports the greens and drilling maybe it would wake up the politicians to do something.

More than seven in 10 voters insist that they would not be willing to pay higher taxes in order to fund projects to combat climate change, according to a new poll.
The survey also reveals that most Britons believe “green” taxes on 4x4s, plastic bags and other consumer goods have been imposed to raise cash rather than change our behaviour, while two-thirds of Britons think the entire green agenda has been hijacked as a ploy to increase taxes.
The findings make depressing reading for green campaigners, who have spent recent months urging the Government to take far more radical action to reduce Britain’s carbon footprint. The UK is committed to reducing carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2050, a target that most experts believe will be difficult to reach. The results of the poll by Opinium, a leading research company, indicate that maintaining popular support for green policies may be a difficult act to pull off, and attempts in the future to curb car use and publicly fund investment in renewable resources will prove deeply unpopular.

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

“this whole global warming thing is a yet another way to shake us down for tax money.”
Hmmm… I’m not sure I’m ready to go there. I don’t think it’s a conspiracy, I think a lot of people really beleive global warming is a big problem. I don’t think it’s a scam.
I DO think that it’s yet to be proven that man is the cause. And I also don’t think it’s been proven that warming is universally bad.

It’s been proven man is the cause. There’s no debate.

The problem with global warming is the alarmists do not wish to debate. The debate isn’t really that global warming exists — its how fast, what needs to be done, and what have we already done.
If we listen to the alarmists the new york city should have been underwater 20 years ago. Their climate models haven’t gotten any better since I was in elementary school — they still don’t work backwards in time.

Gosh Michele, I thought you were delusional before, but this simply confirms it.
“And I’m glad the greens are upset, I’m tired of being ruled by them. Our gas prices are so high because of them.”
If you’re an American, then you’ve just typed a bald-faced lie. Not “Christian”.
If you want to have a modicum of believability, then you might want to start writing believable things.

Either global warming is a fraud, in which case we should ignore the whole thing, or global warming will get rid of our winters, in which case we should endorse it.
Opposing anything that shortens winter makes no sense whatsoever.

chuck is right. forget that people, plants and animals have evolved and congregated around sources of run off and natural fresh water sources since the beginning of time. why should we care what species get wiped out as long as we get rid of that snow and ice.
and as soon as all the ice melts, we can start pumping the planet for more oil.

Ice is not the only source of fresh water, genius. Ever heard of rain? I guess the Congo river can’t exist because their are no glaciers in Zaire.

Given the reality that the Earth is slowly warming up and CO2 is a greenhouse gas, it is likely humans are part of the cause. But another factor is that climates change over time due to natural variations. For example there was a significant cooling and warming period in recent history before the industrial revolution. So how much of the warming are humans responsible?
Another issue is that there are alarmists voices which undermined the credibility of more moderate voices. Anyone older than 40 remember that in the 70′s we were supposed to be undergoing global cooling and a new ice age was the hysteria at that time. This didn’t happen and it undermined the credibility of climate scientists in the eyes of many.

is that what i said? um… no. zz, you clearly have little understanding of the importance of snow and ice pack in mountainous regions, or of animal life around arctic ice. you might want to figure that out before spouting off.
mh has a good point. alarmists are a problem, but so are those who happily ignore the science altogether simply because they’re turned off by the alarmists.

Wow! And the earth isn’t flat either. I hope you aren’t a scientist because with that kind of absolutism you would do better to go into religion.

Let me ask you something, why do you think that Gore owes a part of a company that deals in carbon offsets?

i think that it’s a smart business move.
do you think that gore has conspired for all the many years that he has followed the science leading up to today with all of the scientists who support the scientific evidence and theories? talk about wacko conspiracy theories! whoa.
the science is out there for you to analyze and scrutinize. go for it.

“i think that it’s a smart business move.”
Yeah is was a smart business move! He got tons of people duped into believing that the earth is warming and then when the science starts to show that the earth has started to cool then it turns out not to be about climate change not global warming. And oh, BTW, when the government makes you reduce your carbon “footprint” or purchase carbon offsets, well look who has a company set up to do it. Please! You people are naive if you don’t realize that Gore has found a way to make seem easy cash and get gullible people to worship him at the same time.

if he convinced people into believing what the scientific evidence says is true, then so what? oh, and when the government keeps any other companies from offering carbon offsets, then you have an argument. i don’t recall your unease with the cheney/halliburton ties, or bush family ties to the military industrial complex.
will you be changing your story, michele, when you hear your candidate pledging to do something about the global climate change problem? or when conservative religious leaders are waking up to the truth and leaving your ranks to do something about the problem of global climate change? or when your boy king admits it’s a problem:

The president said global warming has “been more clearly defined as a problem” during his eight years in office, and when asked if it is real, Bush said: “Yes, it is real; sure is.”

politico, 5/13/08
there’s no credible scientific evidence that shows the earth cooling, except in microclimates (hence it’s not global cooling). the overall average temperature of the planet is on the rise and the earth is not flat.
you, sweetie, are the one who is naive.
