Huckabee jokes about someone shooting at Obama
I'm beginning to wonder if that story of Huckabee looking to run in 2012 and isn't whole-heartedly campaigning might have some validity. Either that or the guy is not really filled with too much wisdom:During a speech before the National...
This is ghastly news! How "Christian" could a remark that that be? Yikes for Mike!
There a lot of jokes like that floating around, but one does not normally expect a politician to make them.
I'm not surprised at all, given his incautious remarks in the past on other topics.
His coarse humor, especially the self-deprecating kind, never played correctly at the national level. And that's too bad because it was probably a huge asset in his state and local campaigns.
Jesus Christ, literally, what the hell is wrong with Evangelicals?
Now Huckabee can be included with Ted Haggard (leader of 40 million Evangelicals who was getting massaged by a gay prostitute in the groin area and just happened to be curious about crystal meth); Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell (both of whom said right after 9/11 that we deserved it); Rod Parsley (quoted as saying, "We get off on war!"), etc.
FOX favorite Bill O'Reilly said Michele Obama could be lynched. Anyone seen the video of him freaking out on the tabloid show where he got his start? Why do Evangelicals eat this crap up?
It's stuff like this that makes me think almost literally that the anti-Christ is alive and well in the Evangelical movement. Who would Jesus joke about getting shot?
I know there's good Evangelicals out there, including some in my own family. To them I say: "Your movement is like an anti-Christ Titanic. It's time to jump ship!"
Michele,
I applaud you for asking the question: "Why would he even joke about this when so many blacks have expressed this fear?"
I'm sorry if my initial post was too blunt.
Sincerely,
Brian Horan
I generally enjoy Huckabee's wit. The one exception until now) were the remarks he made sucking up to the redneck vote on the Confederate flag.
But humor always has an edge and sometimes it cuts too deep.
In this particular case, the governor's wit was only runnng at 50%.
"Why would he even joke about this when so many blacks have expressed this fear?"
um... because he's a moronic, pasty white republican idiot. i'm surprised that you had to ask.
"because he's a moronic, pasty white republican idiot. i'm surprised that you had to ask."
The reason I asked is because he's a Christian and this is supposed to matter.
Brian Horan, you're my hero this morning.
"The reason I asked is because he's a Christian and this is supposed to matter."
in that case, keep asking. think he will answer?
by the way, it's not just blacks who have voiced that concern. also, guarding his mouth isn't really the problem, it's that he thinks that it's acceptable to even consider the thought that's the problem.
I think the "joke" was in very poor taste-- maybe a thought popped into Huckabee's mind and he decided to run with it-- or perhaps the joke was actually prepared beforehand and he thought it would go over well with a "gun-loving" NRA crowd. Either way, a joke like this doesn't reflect a whole lot of discernment/wisdom on the part of Huckabee. The assassination of a presidential candidate is just too serious to joke about.
The only thing one can say in defense of a remark like this is that people sometimes say very stupid things when they're trying to be funny-- we all have thoughts pass through our minds that we wouldn't broadcast to the world, and most of the time we censor ourselves, but in this case, it seems Huckabee's internal censor was off-duty.
