NY Post review of “Speed Racer”

posted by Susan Johnson | 7:39pm Thursday May 8, 2008

Now, this is pretty smart of the NY Post, they’ve filmed their movie reviewer so that we don’t have to waste or time reading the review :-) and I can embed it here on my blog. I wouldn’t have bothered reading the review or even linking to it because I’m not interested in the movie but here I am embedding the video just because I can! Smart!

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Yeah, great delivery method … now if someone would record themselves reading the Manifesto … maybe the Jehovah Witnesses have something on the rest of us … with MP3s of the Watchtower.
I still see my 7-year-old liking the movie. But I can also see him needing TiVo’s 30-sec skip button … in the theater to bypass the boring parts … as he’s accustomed to doing at home. He can watch a 2 hour movie in 34 minutes.

Maybe you should wait till it comes to video. And I would appreciate it if some would record Bavinck and Turrentin so I could prepare for my final as I cleaned my kitchen.

I saw it tonight and was pretty impressed with the CGI. It was definitely an action/comic book movie. It was pretty jumpy and the plot line would be difficult for a kid (10 and under) to follow, but I don’t think they have to understand it to enjoy the movie (colors, speed, special effects, etc). I think it is worth seeing at the theater for the large special effects (almost 3-D ish in parts) and the sound of speeding race cars (like the race scenes from Star Wars).
Warning for children: The young kid in the movie gives an adult the middle finger at one point and there is some mild cursing. There is a monkey side-kick that throws his poop at an “evil” adult also (which might be justifiable ?
There were also some lines in the previews that I noted might be objectionable for smaller kids (one kid next to me [probably 5 y.o] was laughing at a verbal reference/joke about sex since the adults laughed and I heard his mother say, “Why are you laughing, you don’t even know what that means?”)
As an adult, however, a very enjoyable movie.
And a serious warning for epileptics that are sensitive to light and visual/flashing patterns – avoid this movie. Even for myself, I had to turn away from the screen at one point.
