hahahahahahahahaha!

now that's funny. i love how it appeals to peoples ignorance of the full text and meaning of the second amendment. gee if only the nra could rewrite that amendment and bend it to the meaning that they prefer by taking out the whole application of the amendment to militias!

then, "hard working, law abiding citizens have for generations enjoyed this right." why do they leave out that "hard working" murders and criminals and mentally unstable kids have also enjoyed that "right" by imposing their wrath upon the general public, not with fists or knives, but with automatic and semiautomatic guns?

misquoting obama (and out of context, no less) as saying that "people cling to guns in times of economic distress" as some sort of evidence that obama will take our guns away is a hoot. i suppose that the religious right will misquote him and say that obama also wants to take away our freedom of religion!

"his anti gun record is long" and lists 2 illinois senate bills regarding gun ownership. wow. does it give his reasons for why he voted the way he did?

i would have voted against sb2165, too because it provided a reason for breaking an existing municipal ordinance. the local municipality had a previous regulation on gun ownership, and this bill provided a legal defense for violating the previous law.

i would have voted for sb1195, too (as would have most residents of illinios http://www.niu.edu/PubAffairs/RELEASES/2005/march/gunban.shtml). it's reasonable gun control legislation:

Prohibits the knowing manufacture, delivery, and possession of semiautomatic assault weapons, large capacity ammunition feeding devices, and assault weapon attachments. Provides for an affirmative defense to a violation for peace officers, correctional institution employees and officers, members of the Armed Services and Reserve Forces of the United States, and the Illinois National Guard while these persons are in the performance of their duties.

next?

Typical RNC. They can't have an honest argument, so they twist quotes out of context, and cite a couple of billls that, as anonymous reincarnate pointed out, had some serious flaws. They also quote only part of the second amendment, adhering to the NRA edited version of the same. I guess that bit about a well regulated militia is too much work to understand.

Hey, it worked for them before, and I guess the Rev. Wright 'issue' got worn out . But no worries, they'll be flogging that dead horse soon as well. We also can look forward to gays, flag burning, and other issues that affect almost no Americans at all but bring out the usual fools.

That kind of trivial pursuit can be ok if the country faces no serious problems, but now it is not acceptable.

I think good chunks of the right in this country is like Kevin Kline's character in "A Fish Called Wanda". Especially some Evangelicals.

What Bible do you read and what spirit occupies your heart to have such a lust for guns and violence?

With 4,000 some dead American troops for a war based on lies, this is the signature issue for the RNC right now? With inflation; a weak dollar; unprecedented Republican government deficits; etc.?

And for a blogger that's going to Westminster Theological Seminary to be cheering this crap on... I'm quite serious in asking: "How would Jesus arm himself? What Bible do you read Michele? Is this some kind of sick joke?"

I graduated from Columbine High School in Littleton, CO in '92 where the massacre happened. I was living in the area when the massacre happened. It was sad and surreal.

Marlyn Manson had the good sense to cancel his concert. The NRA still held their convention in Denver in the month that followed even though the Littleton suburb was still grieving (see 'Bowling for Columbine').

These people are selfish jerks. The NRA has even fought background checks and waiting periods that could prevent mentally ill people from getting there hands on guns.

Can you please focus on the poor in our country? Can you focus on helping disabled veterans/victims of the war for lies Republicans have championed?

John McCain wants to skimp on the GI Bill. How the hell are we supposed to recruit people for the military now?

Maybe we can just ship all the gun nuts to Iraq! Our extremists and their extremists deserve each other.

"obama will take our guns away is a hoot."

Obama does want to take away guns. He supports the ban on handguns in DC. And the Constitution is clear and so is the intent of the framers -- the citizens have a right to defend themselves against even the government.

obama didn't create the ban on handguns in dc. nor have i heard or read a quote from him supporting the ban outright. i know that he sees an individual right in the second amendment, but he also believes that local government should be able to have common sense regulations so that police aren't out-gunned in the streets. the question with respect to dc is whether it's common sense or over reaction.

oh, sweetie, you've got a long way to go for the citizens to have the firepower to defend against this government. handguns and assault rifles won't quite do it.
