I was just on Hulu and noticed that they had episodes of Speed Racer. Here’s the first one and you can watch the rest here.

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Michele,
Just when I thought I’d never ever agree with you again, I see SPEED RACER on your space. COOL BEANS!
I saw the movie last night and it was very faithful to the cartoon I watched as kid. It’s faithful the way Sam Rami was faithful to the Spiderman material. Be warned though folks: Spiderman and SPEED RACER probably originated from different spirits.
Basically, I think SPEED RACER is like psychedelic family fun. It’s manic, colorful, and funny in a Brady-Bunch/Peewee Herman kind of way. For me it was a great escape.
I think most of the critics and folks reviewing it on the Internet that have been lukewarm would do well to prime themselves up with a viewing of the original cartoon. Michele’s doing the Beliefnet community a huge favor. God bless her for it.
The only thing deep about SPEED RACER is it’s populism and the way his family sticks by his side. And it’s mostly comical in a Brady-Bunch kind of way. With all the BS going on in the world this movie was balanced perfectly for me to escape right back to my early childhood mornings!
You just became OK in my book again Michele! Maybe SPEED RACER is bringing us closer to world peace. Maybe Michele and I can eat Fruit Loops and Captain Crunch together.

Well, even though I offered it up for your enjoyment, I didn’t watch it. Sorry to disappoint. Did you see the review from the NY Post I posted? What do you think of his criticisms?

BTW, I’m sure there are plenty of things that we could agree on if we just started listing our favorite movies, books and TV shows :-)

Michele,
I repeat: “I think most of the critics and folks reviewing it on the Internet that have been lukewarm would do well to prime themselves up with a viewing of the original cartoon.”
For me this movie had a lot of heart because it’s such an incredible elaboration of something I was fond of as a kid. I think the Wachowski brothers have made an incredible transfer of SPEED RACER from one medium to another.
Yeah, it’s fluff! But, it’s fluff with heart.
I think too many critics and movie goers expect rich character development and elaborate stories for comic book movies. Come on folks! This is SPEED RACER!
My recommendation: Go for pure escape! Take in the beautiful colors! Laugh at the absurdities.
