Why Oprah Winfrey left Rev. Jeremiah Wright's church.

Monday May 5, 2008

She knew his sermons would be too much for most Americans to accept (she was proved right on that one) and she founded her own religion :-) According to two sources, Winfrey was never comfortable with the tone of Wright's...

Maybe Oprah should run for President. She calls Obama brilliant but it took him 20 years to figure out what was wrong with Wright, while it didn't take her nearly that long to get wise to Wright's shtick.

Well, if your critical reason for leaving a church is the fear that your preacher's anger might offend the people responsible for your Nielsen ratings, then her decision makes perfect sense. I don't think too many people fall into that category. Obama has said repeatedly that his primary loyalty is to the church, its members and its mission. Had he left because of Wright, people on the right would now be lacerating him for having been a cynical political hack who sacrificed his loyalty to a congregation committed to social justice because he didn't want to risk losing votes when the Republican attack machine went sniffing for sermon sound bites like so many pigs in search of truffles.

WHAT I DONT UNDERSTAND IS WHY JUST IN ONE WEEK WHEN WRIGHT CAME BACK AND MADE OBAMA MAD AND THEN HE SAID WRIGHT IS OUT. BUT THIS WAS 1 YEAR WHAT HAPPEN TO THE 19 YEARS. WHAT YOU THANK MRS. OBAMA SHE LOOK MAD ALL THE TIME AND SHE SAYING THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I LOVE THIS CO.
OBAMA NEED TO DROP OUT.

Marge, you may want to turn off the capslock because typing in all capitals is considered shouting.

Anyway, this discussion is really pointless because it's just a distraction from the REAL issue which is that all Christians are racists who believe in Leprachuans and Bush is Hitler. Right? RIGHT????

Personally, I think Oprah left this hate filled church for two reasons
1) For business reasons...not wanting her fans to know she attended there
2) Did not want to tithe...did not like the pressure to give more money to the church

I an dismayed at many of Oprah's comments and decision of late. For example, she often strongly implies that living together prior to marriage...even having children is not only an acceptable alternative lifetsytle, but perhaps a preferrable one. However, this choice is not usually beneficial for women and families.

My guess is that Oprah was hoping most folks would not give her recent decision not to invite Sarah Palin or Hillary Clinton on the show much thought or that they too would be so biased as to not figure out what was going on. In any case, it is arrogant and dishonest. She has a right to endorse a candidate if she would like. It is a free country. However, she should be professional, mature, honest, fair and responsible. Instead, she has made it clear to her viewing audience that their wants and needs are totally irrelevant to her. She is all Oprah all the time. Note: She has her candidate on her popular show early to market him to the nation. The she slams the door shut to other candidates announcing she doesn't want the show to be a "political platform." It's ridiculous to think that folks are not going to figure out this little game of hers.

There was a time, a long time ago, that Oprah presented a decent talk show. But in recent years, it is nothing but tripe. I feel dirty that I watched this tripe for as long as I did, but relieved that it is all over now. I guess Oprah held her breath for a long time, but lost it when she became infatuated with Obama. I've learned not to believe a person feels a certain way, until you see them in action. There are a few numbers of people that think her billions of dollars give her the right to be unfair and biased and that this makes it all okay. I say "hogwash." Besides, I think Oprah is a very sad, lonely, mixed up person.
I'm using the extra time to do great things for myself and family. I'm cathing up double time and I would suggest all that watched her show do the same. Turn the show off. It feels REALLY good to have my eyes open to be moving forward at this rate of speed.
