One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1. She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life. A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight.

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments.
The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others.
Through it, I have seen people reach out

Nice parody? This is utter crapola. And REALLY hard on the ears.

Isn’t parody supposed to be funny? This wasn’t funny, relevant, or even worth comment. If you think it was worth passing on, it really shows you lack any sense of decency or civility.

I have to admit that you neo-con Christians probably DO know whereof you speak when it comes to the cult of personality, though; after all, you were so taken in by that faux cowboy’s Jesus-speak that you sold your birthright for a big ol’ stinking mess of political pottage. And sold your country down the river right along with it. For which the rest of us, living with the consequences, are ever so grateful.

Why do these waste of time Lefties portray Barack Obama wearing a mask over his face. We Christians can see through his disguise. What a waste of a Taylor guitar as well. How interesting that folks like yelladawgNC can see the lemming in front them as they head off the cliff their being driven to by secularist. It would be humorous if it weren’t for the evil the lefties call good. People like y-dNC don’t see that the opiate of the people is opium. Satan has done a good job convincing the lefties that down is up and evil is a civil right. Oh well, it’s all about choices in the end. Literally.

Tell me what’s godly about following George W. Bush, please. Is it the torture of prisoners? The suspension of habeas corpus? The thousands of Americans whose lifeblood drained into the sands of Iraq, and the thousands more who came home with damaged brains, missing arms and legs, traumatized souls, all for a lie? Or maybe it’s the rich growing obscenely richer via systematic tax cuts for the wealthiest, while the poor choose between food or medicine? If that isn’t evil I’d like to know what you call it.

BTW, just read this morning that the nuns of St. Mary’s Convent, South Bend, all in their 80′s and 90′s, were turned away from their polling place on Tuesday because of those new, strict voter ID laws you were so pleased about, Michele.
So now, instead of a solution without a problem (nobody has ever been able to demonstrate that people actually do vote under assumed names, including you), we have a real problem of voters being disenfranchised. Nice going, Bush Supreme Court appointees!!!!

To get this video’s joke you have to know about the GI Joe animated series from the 80′s. The guy with the mask is Cobra commander who always tried to take over the world using crazy schemes involving advanced technology. Which is why they had vote Cobra at the end of the video. You still might not find it funny, but at least you’ll understand it. I agree it was pretty jumbled and hard on the ears, but the production values were high, so this looked professionally produced.
The “Yes we shall” is a dig at the Obama campaign, but could also be seen as a meta level dig at his campaign manager. Obama’s campaign manager ran the Deval Patrick campaign for Governor which used the slogan “Together we can”. During Deval’s campaign the Boston Globe had a contest to finish the slogan because everyone was asking “Together we can – what?”
It is acutally striking how similar the two campaigns have been.

I didn’t bother to watch the video. A ‘recommendation’ by Michele was enough to make me avoid it. But a comment on a comment…”Yes we shall?” Doesn’t Hillary limply use “Yes we will” in counterpoint to Obama’s “Yes we can”???
Puhleeeze don’t tell me Michele is supporting Ms Clinton!

It’s my understanding that was a set-up. Let’s hope the women get it sorted out before the general.

Um, I don’t see the “set-up” here, unless you’re implying that a bunch of 80 and 90 year old nuns are part of some kind of sinister conspiracy.

This was a scam to hurt minorities, but it backfired. What Satan meant for evil,God meant for good.

Believe me, yelladawgNC, I got nothin’ ‘gainst religious sisters. ‘Though if they were cardinals, they’d be too old to vote.
Since 9/11, getting state or federally-issued photo IDs has become more difficult, as it should be. But, now, the need for such an ID to vote means it must be easy to get them.
That makes me nervous.
As important as voting is, a signature on file – which is what we have in NJ – ought to be sufficient.

I don’t think it’s so easy for some people to get such ID’s. First of all, you have to get to the place where they’re issued. There’s usually some kind of fee involved. You may need to produce a birth certificate issued by the state, not simply by the hospital where you were born. Etc. etc. I think it’s easy for middle-class people, with cars, access to computers, the confidence to face down bureaucrats and so forth, to underestimate what it takes for someone who’s poor, and/or elderly, and/or reliant on public transportation (such as it is!), to do what seems to us a fairly routine thing.
Besides, we should make it as easy as possible for people to participate in our democracy. So I’m with you: once you’re registered, you should be good to go. Besides, think of the $$$ it costs to maintain a bureaucracy that issues these IDs. Then poll workers have to deal with turning people away, which is a waste of their time and causes delays.
The plain fact is, this whole voter ID thing is backed by Republicans because they want to disenfranchise as many Democratic voters as possible, because our party tends to have a far greater percentage of the very people who are likely to have more difficulty jumping through the hoops necessary to obtain the ID. But given the record numbers of new voter registrations, it’s unlikely that this scheme will have the desired effect. However, it’s still wrong if even one voter loses his or her opportunity to exercise the franchise.

Where did I recommend it? You guys really need to lighten up. All I did was link to a weird parody. I guess you didn’t get the “Nice parody?” or the fact that I was speechless. To subtle for you? Maybe I need to spell stuff out s l o w l y so you can understand?

So, I wish they’d make up their minds whether they honor homeland security through tough ID standards or voters’ rights with lax ID standards. It’s the ol’ security/convenience trade-off.

If you Google “Cobra Commander 08″ it turns out this video is part of a larger mock campaign.
