One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1. She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life. A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments.
The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others.
Through it, I have seen people reach out

He’s very centrist. Always has been. Heck, he garnered a LOT of praise from Democrats until election season rolled around and they all got simultaneous lobotomies.

That’s odd, given that McCain has voted not only with his own party over 80 percent of the time, but with the President over 90 percent of the time. Which means, when Bush and the party conflict, McCain tends to pich Bush.
How, exactly, is that ‘centrist’ again? What ‘centrist’ positions does he hold?

Karen, I think his being against torture and being an organizer of the “Gang of 14 got him in the dog house with many Republicans. From my point of view he was right on both issues and picked being correct over loyalty to party.
There’s also his position on campaign finance reform which many conservative really dislike.

This is why you’re going to see smear and fear in a big way before this election.
the only chance the GOP has is to drive up Obama’s negatives. Considering that 80% of the country thinks we’re headed in the wrong direction, they can’t run on their record.
I believe they will lose, and smear the stuffing out of Obama for the next four years.

Well, given he’s switched positions on most of those issues, and that isn’t exactly a very long list.. I’d say that makes him a fairly average Republican with a few issues where he dissents. Unless, of course, any dissent qualifies.
He voted the opposite position on torture, and hasn’t really tried to do anything regarding campaign finance. And I am not sure if one would call voting to preserve an option (filibustering judge noms) that was first used BY Republicans to be a particularly opposite party position either.
But, guess in the current climate, one takes what one can get when it comes to ‘centrists’.

McCain is a total political opportunist. The latest but far from only example is his absurd attempt to bill himself as an environmentalist on the very same day that he came out in favor of offshore drilling for oil (which most critics say would make almost no difference in the price).
He might have had some principles once upon a time, but they’ve held up about as well as the elastic in his shorts.
And ZZ, it ain’t the Dems who had lobotomies; it’s guys like you who voted twice for George W. Bush, the Worst President in History. Tell me how you have any credibility left.

I like John McCain, and I agree with his basic position on Iraq, but I worry that he may have too much of a reckless and impulsive streak to be reliable as President. It’s going to be very hard for me to vote for either McCain or Obama this fall. I am still considering “writing in” Hillary.

I am going to write in Hillary even if I have to paint it in white out over the screen of the computerized voting machine.

Depends on the state, I think, if they have a ‘write in’ area.

I think the amazing thing is how well McCain is doing dispite the lack of enthusiasium and with 75% of americans unhappy with the current direction that the country is going in.
I’d expect it to be 60/40 by now but its not. The country is still pretty polarized around 45(D)/45(R)/10(don’t know).
