One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1. She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life. A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight.
My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments.
The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others.
Through it, I have seen people reach out

Laptops are becoming more common than desktops and their CPU’s and graphics chipsets often can’t run Vista Aero. There’s also the emerging ultra cheap low end laptops which are gaining steam and can’t run Vista at all. So MS is keeping XP alive rather than loose that market.
The buzz on the first previews of Windows 7 hasn’t been good either. They haven’t fixed what made Vista bad and they’re just throwing in more bloat.

Apple

Yes, the ubiquitous Apple comment. Whenever we PC users complain about Microsoft, the Apple users have to throw in their recommendation that we move to the overpriced Apple computers. But if I can get a PC that does what I want (surf the Internet, write papers and Bibles studies and edit my pictures), why would I pay twice as much for an Apple. And I would have to spend even more replacing some of my favorite problems. Vista may be a dog but it still does the simple tricks I need it to perform (good, doggy! here have a treat).

Well, that and almost every program I run on my PC doesn’t even have a MAC version.
So, until MAC gets on the ball and does whatever it takes so all computer apps coming out are available in their format (when they often aren’t at all, and when they are, its like two years later).. then its PC for me.

Macs make good paperweights and desk decorations but other than that they are of dubious utility.

I use both Macs and PC – and given the choice I would use a Mac all the time. They are designed to do the things I do the most – word processing, graphics, and such. Though they are weakest in some of the more mathematical/scientific area, they also they have fewer problems with worms and infections. Certainly there are fewer games for Mac. PC users are getting more sensitive about sticking with their system – while Mac users are proseletyzing more about their system of choice. You use what works best for you. But many former PC devotees are giving up on Mr. Gates and going with Mr Jobs simply because the ease of use is dramatically clear.

Get a Mac. Study after study has shown that the total cost of ownership of an Apple computer is cheaper than any PC. I can provide references if necessary. Also, the software is nothing short of amazing and intuitive.

Again, when they make the programs I actually use FOR a MAC, I’ll get one.
I am not a graphic artist, or a person who mixes music. I do a little word processing, store some data, play games and cruise the internet.
There is at least one of those things that the MAC won’t do. When it does, I’m more than willing to make the switch.

OK, let me guess which one is the problem. Since you can use word on MAC, I bet it’s playing games. Is there a game you can’t play on MAC or do you want to play the newest games and you have to wait years before they eventually get to MAC?
posted June 25, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Both. There’s many that never come out in MAC format. When they do, it is often years later.
For instance, they just had ‘Open for Business’ for Sims 2 released for Mac. This expansion came out in 2006.
Some games never do come out in that format.

As for versions of Windows, heck, I JUST changed over to XP. Likely be a few years before I bother with Vista (assuming that, unlike Millennium, another version hasn’t already come out by then).

No if you don’t want to be laughed at

Hey, don’t pick on the penguin!
Actually, if this were a perfecter world the decider would be sure that our software of choice was Linux. Sadly, we are a flawed, sinful, and stiff-necked people, so the only change to be had is under our cushions. As it is, like our equally flawed political machine, our brains-in-a-box is also a two party debate. I am a binary mugwumo, using both systems. But I do prefer Apple every time I actually have a choice.

Yeah, sometimes too much tax gets copied. It’s very annoying. Usually I catch it but I missed it this time.

You couldn’t pay me to use Linux. I actually want to use my computer for real work

Macs are *nix. I’m reasonably happy with XP but Linux has some very well-developed capabilities if you ever want to go under the hood of an OS. Linux’s web and server applications are very powerful, as are its many scientific applications.

I have a Vista machine (and at a price comparable to a Mac). My next machine will most likely be a Mac.
…why would I pay twice as much for an Apple.
Vista.

Vista.
That didn’t seem to stop me from getting my Vaio (which I love, btw). Vista has only been a minor inconvenience for me. I was smart enough to get the second mg of ram. So, it doesn’t usually get bogged down and the problems I have had with memory hogs (like ripping a CD), I’ve been able to get a workaround (using Real Audio instead of Windows Media). Someone like me who has been using PCs since the beginning of time, isn’t going to be thrown by an OS like Vista.

I suppose this is true but don’t you find it galling to have to put in a second GB of RAM to do roughly the same stuff you did with a machine with maybe 512 MB and XP, or 256 MB and Windows 2000? There’s also the driver incompatibility issues.

All I know is that this computer is much faster than my Toshiba and I pretty happy with it.
Yeah I might if I thought about it
