In the UK of course. Muslims consider dogs unclean:
Where Muslims object, officers will be obliged to use sniffer dogs only in exceptional cases. Where dogs are used, they will have to wear bootees with rubber soles. "We are trying to ensure that police forces are aware of sensitivities that people can have with the dogs to make sure they are not going against any religious or cultural element within people's homes. It is being addressed and forces are working towards doing it," Acpo said. It's nice that they are being so thoughtful of the religious sensibilities of their terrorists.
But evidently they are going too far:
Ibrahim Mogra, one of Britain's leading imams, said the measures were unnecessary: "In Islamic law the dog is not regarded as impure, only its saliva is.Make sure you read the rest of the article because it's pretty funny.

the article says that "guidelines... urge awareness of religious sensitivities when using dogs to search for drugs and explosives."
they're suspects, not terrorists. so much for rule of law in your eyes.
you have something against treating muslims with respect? i suppose if they police suspected that you operated a crack house and they trotted over your bible, you'd be a bit put out. sort of like when a teacher expects her class to participate in an exercise that disrespects the families beliefs?

Michele McGinty : "Do you think they would have ever used booties dealing with the IRA?"
Probably not, but they may have made other kinds of social concessions to try and build trust with the Northern Irish locals. I really don't know.
Putting booties on the dog doesn't diminish its effectiveness so you're making a polite concession without loosing anything. But what was more interesting from the article was the claim this wasn't needed.

I think that any teacher who abuses their position by pushing their agenda should be fired, whether it's global warming, Christianity, anti-war, etc. They should just teach the subject they were hired to teach without proselytizing.
