So are his supporters! hehehehe! This video is so funny! I loved it when one supporter said she took a cab because she was running late. Yes, she’s concerned for the environment expect when she’s running late! And the guy who said, “What do you care?” when it was pointed out that he was guzzling gas by taking a cab, might want to ask that of Al Gore when he hectors us about our energy consumption. Also, it’s quite refreshing to hear an Al Gore supporter be honest about what the left really think about the high price of gas.(via)

This has got to be one of the lamest diversionary tactics ever. We have a global environmental problem – nearly all of the scientists who are not being paid by oil companies agree on this. It could affect millions of people within years- and eventually all of us. The data is in, and the scientists are in as much agreement as scientists can come to.
And what is the right’s response….?…….wait for it…….
Al Gore lives in a big house and isn’t practicing what he preaches.
I am supposed to be shocked that a rich man has a different lifestyle than most of us do!
Oh, wait a minute while I catch my breath…..And,,,,,,some of his followers are imperfect as well.
A Christian asks me to be stunned at human imperfection. Do I really need to spell out how unsurprising this little nugget is? Anybody who hasn’t figured that out is clearly unable to see lightning and hear thunder.
The point is that we should live in more sustainable ways. And it will not wreck the economy- every time humanity improves its efficiency, the living standards have improved. Read history.

But take a look at the source for this diversion. It’s Michele Malkin, former fluffer for Bill O’Reilly.

BTW, your dig at the scientists who don’t support the theory of global warming is inaccurate. There are plenty of scientist who don’t buy it but are being hounded by the fascists who hate dissent.

What a load of garbage. Grade-school-guy , who clearly attended the Ann Coulter school of rhetoric, once again proves that he has nothing to offer but catcalls. And Michele claims that , if somebody takes a cab, they don’t really believe that global climate change exists. That’s not a point, that’s a spin, and a silly one at best. What way could Al Gore live that would meet your ‘standards?’ Should he live in a modest house? Then he would be mocked for his pretensions of modesty. Look at the way Jimmy Carter was mocked by the right for his work for Habitat for Humanity. The right is expert at criticism- what a pity their expertise doesn’t extend to honest , competant governance.
The scientists who disagree on the problem are , for the most part, funded by the oil industry. There are exceptions, but not many. The Michael Crichton angle, that those scientists are all on the take, is the argument of the crank. Crichton is , in effect, arguing that he’s the only honest one . This reminds me of the people who argue that doctors don’t really want to cure cancer because they make more money this way- as if doctors don’t get cancer too.

Tedious. Just like the argument after it , that conservatives get treated so badly by the media that, for the most part, they own.
Then Michele chimes in with the ‘everybody else has to do it first , or I’m not…’ argument.

We win, our children win. If we were to act on Al G’s prophecies and then discover he was “right,” what would the result be? We would have literally saved ourselves and our children from self-destruction. We win, our children win. Call me crazy – or liberal – but this sounds pretty much like a no-brainer.

show us this vast community of scientists who don’t buy it. and your labeling of the scientific community as “fascists” says a lot about what you think of the scientists that you disagree with. you’ve already stated in the past that you’re no scientist, and know very little on the subject. apparently the libaughs and coulters and malkins have educated you on the “science.” i’ve seen a huge long list of “scientists” who argued against global climate change. it has long since been debunked.

the fakeumentary, “doomsday called off” is outdated and uses flawed science. most of the scientists that the fakeumentary cites all have monetary ties (that is, PAID FOR) by exxon mobile.
let’s discuss the experts that they trot out, follow the money, look at their credentials and science:
david legates – “fluffed” his resume by misrepresenting himself as a “state climatologist” when he had no affiliation with the state. the state governor asked legates to stop misrepresenting himself. legates is listed as an “expert” for the marshall institute (the marshall institute is a think tank that promotes right-wing agendas like reagan’s star wars, climate change inaction, and bioterrorism defense and has received $700,000 in grants from exxon mobile and $5,757,803 from conservative foundations like the john olin, lynde and harry bradley, castle rock (coors), earhart, sarah scaife, and the carthage foundations). legates was considered an “adjunct scholar” for the national center for policy alternatives, which “will write op-eds” according to philip morris (and they would know, because they hired ncpa to confuse the science regarding the dangers of tobacco). ncpa received $465,900 from exxon. the heartland institute think tank who lists legates as a “global climate expert” has received over $791,000 from exxon. the independent institute think tank who lists him as a “research fellow” received $70,000 from exxon and other grants from philip morris. dr. michael maccracken, chief scientist for climate programs at the climate institute points out the junk science by legates.
jorgen steffensen – among other things, studies climate fingerprints trapped in the ice from greenland. he does not deny global warming. he does question if it can be proved to be caused by man and whether we should do something about the carbon in the atmosphere. he is recorded as saying, “to filter out whether this present warming is a natural variation or is man made — that is impossible. but if there is a very strong correlation between our emissions and the heating we see today, so do we dare not to?”
willie soon – “chief science advisor” at the frontiers of freedom’s center for science and public policy which was created with $100,000 seed money from exxon. for the heartland institute, published a short article in capitalism magazine (not a peer journal) arguing against global climate change. also for the heartland institute, soon published another article titled “eat more fish!” that argued against the science that the mercury found in fish from the fallout of burning coal is harmful. see the patterns? together with sallie balliunas, co-wrote a paper published by climate research that challenged the accepted science of recent warming. republicans in washington d.c. loved their message. the paper was partly funded by the american petroleum institute. when prevented from printing a repudiation to the paper, several editors at climate research resigned. soon and baliunas were co-authors of the oregon petition that was printed in the style and format of the scientific journal, proceedings of the national academy of sciences which denounced the petition as deliberately deceiving. much of the half-truths in the petition have been disproved, and the petition has updated to remove those “problems.” the petition was originally bulk-mailed to tens of thousands of scientists around the country as an attempt to deceive the public into lobbying against the kyoto protocol. this petition is the most often referred “list” of climate deniers, though a very small portion of the signatories are actual scientists in the field of climatology. ties to the fringe group, oregon institute of science and medicine.
sallie baliunas – (see willie soon)
john christy – affiliated with competitive enterprise institute and independent institute, both funded by exxon.
nils-axel morner – an self-acclaimed expert on “dowsing,” in interesting science.
these ties from prominent deniers to exxon have been questioned by other scientists at the union of concerned scientists:

“A new report from the Union of Concerned Scientists offers the most comprehensive documentation to date of how ExxonMobil has adopted the tobacco industry’s disinformation tactics, as well as some of the same organizations and personnel, to cloud the scientific understanding of climate change and delay action on the issue. According to the report, ExxonMobil has funneled nearly $16 million between 1998 and 2005 to a network of 43 advocacy organizations that seek to confuse the public on global warming science.”

these are the same tactics that were used by religious deniers of evolution, proponents of “intelligent design” to confuse the general public into believing that there’s a large controversy among scientists. even with the national exposure of their questionable science, questionable credentials and financial ties to energy companies and conservative policy “think tanks” some people (guy) still believe them over credible, independent scientists in the m
Foes of global warming theory have energy ties

The study also illustrates a strategy adopted by some energy companies in the late 1980s to attack the credibility of climate science, said John Topping, president of the Climate Institute and a former Republican congressional staffer who founded the institute in 1986. By relying on the news media’s inclination to include both sides of a story, the industries were able to create the impression that scientists were deeply divided over climate change, Topping said. “It was all very shrewdly done,” he said.

The Secret Campaign of President Bush’s Administration To Deny Global Warming

“The consequences of climate change are very real and very negative, but Cheney is not convinced of that. He believes – not quite as much as Senator James Inhofe, that this is a ‘hoax’ – but that the Earth has been changing since it was formed and to say that climate change is caused by humans is incorrect.” (christine todd whitman, bush’s chief of the epa)

anything in a desperate attempt to discredit it. you’ve yet to prove anything other than gore is chairman of an investment company that invests in green technologies. good job! try again, guy.
in the absence of regulations and mandatory carbon emission caps and reduction, entrepreneurs are filling the gap and doing something on their own. it’s not perfect, as most emerging markets aren’t. so be it. that’s capitalism for you.
there are 2 camps, co2 puritans and co2 pragmatists. being a co2 puritan is difficult and is what michele wants everyone to be before she’ll even listen to the experts on the issue. being a co2 pragmatist is easier, but we are the ones who catch flack from the ill-informed deniers like michele and guy. we are pragmatic. we know there’s a problem and make improvements to reduce our carbon emissions, but we can’t live in the dark, without cars, or without computers as a practical matter. so we do what we can to help make up for that (which deniers label as “hypocrisy”). we do this by investing time or money in clean energy technologies, reforestation projects, carbon-reduction automobiles, et cetera.
