Taliban warn that “every woman not wearing Hijab would be disfigured with acid”

posted by Susan Johnson | 12:24pm Thursday July 31, 2008

They are still trying to impose their brand of Islam on the nation:

Tehreek-e-Islami Taliban Pakistan (TITP) has distributed a fifteen-days notice to several “un-Islamic” businesses in Kot Addu to shut down or face dire consequences.
The TTIP wrote threatening letters to owners of CDs shops, Internet cafes and cable service providers urging them to close down their activities.
Similarly, the group warned that women must wear hijab to ensure their safety.
[...]
Acid: The second paragraph said that within five days of the receipt of the letter, every woman not wearing Hijab would be disfigured with acid.
Very soon we would cleanse earth from the traitors of Allah, the third paragraph said.

While we’re praying for the Iranian Christians, we should pray for the women in Afghanistan as well, they are a particular target of the Taliban. Pray that the Lord will protect them and that any attempts to disfigure the women will lead to the arrest of Taliban members.

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Why only pray for the Iranian Christians? Why not also pray for the Iranian Jews, Iranian Bahai’s, Iranian Manichaens/Gnostics, and other Iranians who practice minority faiths and are persecuted by the Islamist government (including Christians, of course)?

Long experience has been that those who say we should pray for a long list of folks instead of just those we are praying for usually don’t pray at all, but PhoenixOrion is right about what we should do. Might ask for different things, tho’.

Unfortunately praying for those women who are forced to wear the hijab won’t do any good, folks. It is the way it is in those countries right now. The Taliban runs things. If the women don’t follow orders, they will pay the consequences.

Imagine that, a story about WOMEN being threatened with being DISFIGURED and what do SOME here come to be offended by? No, they aren’t offended at the disgusting reality of the practices of gross abuse and terrorizing disfigurement the Taliban threatens women with, no they are offended by a suggested prayer list. Grow up. Next Please!

I’m hoping the women will carry guns and shoot any Taliban who come within a hundred feet of them.

I do too. They used to do this sort of thing in other hardline Muslim countries. I’ve heard of using steel wool to clean makeup off.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a common practice in that region of the world. It happens in India, too, and not only among Muslims.
Young Hindu women who refuse a particular suitor are often disfigured by acid in retaliation. I should add that it is often the case that their families support them in refusing a particular suitor, so it’s not simply an attempt at forced marriage. The practice will stop when these societies crack down hard on the perpetrators of these horrific crimes, or when young women start defending themselves with deadly force.

Guy,
I never said that I wasn’t offended by the Taliban’s horrendous treatment of women. I am, and I will be keeping women (and everybody who is oppressed by the Taliban) in Afghanistan in my thoughts and prayers.
I never said Michele (or anyone else) should not pray for Iranian Chrsitians, but should also pray for every faith group that is persecuted in Iran, including Christians, Jews, Gnostics, and Muslims who aren’t sufficiently “Muslim” as determined by Ahmedinejad and his Islamofascist administration.

Yes I am sure that Michele meant by suggesting to pray for the Christians that one SHOULD NOT pray for anyone else and that she needs you to come and tell her WHO SHE should pray for. Yes, no doubt that is what she meant and needed to be told. Good Lord have mercy on your arrogance.
Next Please!
