Hurricane Gustav proves that “God is on our side”

posted by Susan Johnson | 1:17pm Sunday August 31, 2008

Those are the words of a former National Chairman of the Democratic National Committee Don Fowler caught on video laughing about the fact that a hurricane is ready to hit New Orleans during the Republican convention. I wonder if the people of New Orleans would find it funny.
Do the Democrats really want to be the party of the insensitive oafs?

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

You do realize that Christian conservatives like Falwell, Hagee and Robertson blamed Katrina on liberals, feminists, and gays.
Surely you know that and have a point of reference for this kind of rhetoric.

Hitler also killed thousands, so it’s ok for me to also?
How about just saying ‘It was wrong of him to say that’. Or, if you are such a ‘crat that you refuse to admit it’s wrong, then just keep quiet.

Well, they were praying for a big rain on Obama’s apotheosis, while forgetting the words of Thomas Edison who said, “The Almighty gets a bit careless at times.”

people say the dumbest things, like Dobson praying for floods on the Democratic Convention.
Take it for what it is. Stupid is as stupid does. You got knee jerks on both sides.
I’m glad that the Major of New Orleans, the Governor of Louisiana, the Red Cross and the National Guard are working together to save the people. Maybe FEMA and Homeland Security will get it all together as well and everybody will be treated right. That is the only thing that matters. God be worth all who seek righteousness.

As we used to say when we were kids, “O Sure, you can dish it out but you can’t take it!?” At least these guys are being sarcastic and do not truly believe it. It hurts when someone takes your words and then applies them to you, even in jest. I guess the conservative types who were so sure God was on their side a few years ago and having to rethink their theological facades.

Here is what is so REVEALING about you MARXISTS.
ONE of your own is caught making a statement in a context of which is clearly NOT sarcasm nor with ANY reference to Jerry Falwell’s 9/11 comment as he claims, that is not just generally offensive but says to ALL OF THOSE on the COAST LINE that GOD is going to HURT you and possibly DESTROY YOUR LIVES to show he is one OUR SIDE.
And what do you PEOPLE DO? YOU LEFTY LIB MARXISTS don’t humbly admit to its gross distortion, its complete absence of decency or humane consideration for its potential victims and immediately acknowledge the words and person are to be condemned…no, no, you POINT the OTHER WAY.
Yeah, don’t look at the truth, let’s look at someone in the PAST. Well, it isn’t about JERRY FALWELL, it isn’t ABOUT PAT ROBERTSON, it’s about DON FOWLER. You LEFTY LIBS are like children crying to mommy, “WELL JIMMY DOES IT TOO!” Good grief you pathetic juveniles.
But no one is really expecting you LEFTY LIBS to have any integrity and condemn such offensive and inhumane ideology being present in your leadership. Nah, let’s talk about OTHER people guilty of such offensiveness so we don’t HAVE to talk about Democrat leader DON FOWLER or MARXIST MICHAEL MOORE. TYPICAL LEFTY LIBS. NEXT HYPOCRITE PLEASE!

I simply think that if there is a god he is ticked off that someone would pray him into a political campaign. Dobson and the looney fringe of the GOP was praying for a rain of biblical proportions on Denver. Nevermind that such a rain might cause property damage to innocent people. Nevermind that such a rain might take some innocent lives. They were more concerned about punishing their political enemies than caring for their fellow humans.
Maybe god sent this hurricane to New Orleans (perhaps the best prepared town along the coast) to remind Dobson and the other god manipulators that god is not to be trifled with.
After all, when they prayed that god would clean up the Supreme Court, we saw Rhenquist die, and when the right started flapping their mouths about this coming election we saw “Rev.” Kennedy and Falwell croak.
Maybe their is a god, and maybe she is ticked off at the GOP and their evangelical priesthood.
