McCain will not reinstate the draft

posted by Susan Johnson | 8:09am Thursday August 21, 2008

Evidently, the left are in a tizzy over this:

My son is an officer in the Air Force, I’m a vet., and I was raised in a military family. And I think it’s a sorry state of affairs. When we have illegal aliens; having a medic-aid card that can access specialists, top physicians, the best of medical, and our vets can’t even get to a doctor. And these are the people that we tied yellow ribbons for and Bush patted on the back. If we don’t re-enact the draft, I don’t think we’ll have anyone to chase Bin Laden to the gates of Hell. SEN JOHN MCCAIN: Ma’am let me say that I don’t disagree with anything you have said, and thank you.

He has said repeatedly that we do not need a draft and he isn’t interested reinstating it. Here’s a video where he makes his reasons clear why a draft does not make sense. As you can see it’s a very strong response:Clearly McCain formed his answer to the question before he had heard her entire statement and wasn’t really paying attention to what she tacked on the end.

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight. My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Obviously he was just humoring what was equally obviously the village idiot. No, McCain will not bring back the draft. No one in Congress in his right mind would vote to bring back the draft because it would mean the collective end of everyone’s political career.

Maybe McCain should learn (a valuable tool in higher offices) to stop breaking in while people are talking, listen to what people say, so they can actually answer the FULL question that is being asked?
Then such mistakes wouldn’t be made.

Mistake? Freudian slip. This is the man who just last Saturday at Saddleback said what President Bush should have led the country to do after 9-11 was not to go shoppinig, but join Americorps, join the military. You sit-at-home-and-pass-judgment-on-the-doers Republicans just aren’t ready for the truth.

Of course, he’s entitled to a few flip-flops. Dozens, even. I mean, my goodness , the guy can say whatever he wants to , and nobody in the MSM will call him on it.
After all, because he referred to the Iraq-Pakistan border (that’s a country-Iran), and doesn’t know the difference between sunni and shia, and thought that Iran was training Al Quaeda , and doesn’t know how many houses he owns, well, that’s ok. He’ll surround himself with people who know what’s going on, just like Bush.
Just like Bush….and we all know that worked out so well.

RG, the media is cutting him some slack, understanding that he’s not as sharp as he once may have been. for one campaigning on foreign policy and military experience as his strengths, gaffes like this one (that is if it was a gaffe and not a flip-flop like his stand on abortion) are pretty serious.
it’s not the first. i’m sure it won’t be the last. and yes, the liberal u.s. media gives him a pass.
