Think having Palin doesn’t do too much for McCain?

posted by Susan Johnson | 12:54pm Saturday August 30, 2008

So the big question is whether Palin brings something to the McCain ticket. Will she be a bust or a plus? Given the level of excitement her pick has already generated in conservative circles (The Corner was abuzz with many people emailing that they plan to contribute and Limbaugh et al. where positivity raving yesterday over the pick), I’d say the base is pretty happy. Enough to open their checkbook and pour in $3 million to McCain’s campaign!
She may not bring Hillary supporters into the fold because of her pro-life stand but she’s galvanized the base and got us excited about this race the way that McCain never could (except for some who were excited by his performance at Rick Warren’s forum). She will be a good alternative to Obama who spoke of change in Washington and yet choose a Washington insider as his running mate, one that’s been there most of his adult life. Palin brings a fresh perspective and the experience of being both a mayor and Governor.

One Final Word

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

The line I’m using to describe her is “igloo trash.”
I don’t know what Palin will do for or to McCain. I think it was a bad choice in the long run as the VP slot, if he should be elected, is the stepping stone to the Presidency and I cannot see her being nominated to that without a bloody primary fight and being elected if she were.
My first impression of her, without knowing anything about her, just from her appearance and voice, was a total turn-off. I really did hit the mute button after less than two minutes. In fact I think it was less than one minute. My poor ears just could not stand it. So I won’t be listening to anything that she says. I may read a transcript but I won’t put up with that voice. And she really needs a new hairdresser. (I know that sounds petty but in politics such things matter.)
She does shore up the religious right base, but at the same time she may remind people of why they despise the religious right. And my wife has made the point that if she is dumb enough to say that she opposes birth control McCain can hang up his campaign and go home, whichever home he chooses to go to. And I have the sneaking suspicion that she may be dumb enough to do just that.
My personal feeling is that she has all the things I don’t like about Hillary Clinton as a person and none of the things I like about John McCain.
She may very well help get him elected, or she may very well cost him the election he should have won. I don’t know. I do know this. I do not like her and I will probably never vote for her to be President, at least on the basis of what I’ve seen thus far. She is just too, well, obnoxious.

She just seems too much like George W. Bush to me. A very conservative governor with little national experience, especially on foreign policy. I consider myself a moderate and I think the Obama-Biden ticket is closer to my views this time.

I love the pick.
I was a Hillary supporter very upset about Obama’s SEXIST camapign against Hillary.
Obama RAPED Hillary in the primaries.
As a Hillary supporter, I will glady vote for McCain-Palin!

IF you are truly a Hillary supporter, then why in the world would you support Palin?? She, nor the GOP, does not reflect Clinton’s values or beliefs, at all! They are absolute opposites. Are you honestly going to base your vote on the sole fact that she’s a woman? And that’s it?
Can you even imagine if something happened to McCain, that Palin, a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage & a governor for a mere 1.5 years, with ZERO national and international experience, would be fit to become president of the U.S.?
How absolutely terrifing that Americans would even consider this ticket. Please, think harder than that.

You are absolutely unhinged and may lack the rationality to be allowed in the voting booth. Really, truly. What is is you liked in Clinton you like in Mccain/Palin?
It’s fine to support McCain/Palin, but what can a Hillary supporter find appealing about that ticket? It’s just bizarre.

Palin is a complete joke, a desperate move on McCain’s part and, as someone has recently observed, the ULTIMATE act of tokenism.
I don’t believe “Mary” really is a Hilliary supporter. My guess is that McCain’s people are dispatching hundreds of their vermin to spread bogus posts like this one suggesting that women who supported Hillary are going over to the Republicans because McCain chose a woman. Hogwash. Any woman with an IQ over 75 can figure out what is going on here, and it has absolutely nothing to do with supporting any of the causes that matter to women and their families. McCain voted AGAINST health insurance for children, voted AGAINST the Violence Against Women Act spearheaded by Biden, and on and on and on. If that weren’t enough, this woman is completely unqualified to lead our country in these dangerous and uncertain times. She has NO experience at the national level and has said she has “no interest” in Iraq.
It would be a travesty of Palin became the first woman president. Any thinking American knows it, and anyone with the country’s best interests at heart must vote against this ticket.

Can you imagine if Obama, with less than 150 days actually spent in the Senate, with ZERO foreign policy experience, ZERO executive experience, ZERO business experience, would be fit to be president of the US?
Palin may not be the most experienced person to run for VP, but she has more experience than the person running for President on the Democratic side: more years in elected office (13 years to 10 years); More executive experience (5.5 years to 0 years); more business experience (ran a commercial fishing business with her husband); more energy policy experience; more experience cutting government and reducing taxes; and more commander-in-chief experience (1.5 years to 0 years). And Palin actually has some legislative accomplishments she can point to, unlike Obama (ethics reform and passing legislation for a new natural gas pipeline). She was also a better basketball player than Obama, leading a state championship team.
I don’t think Obama supporters want to play the experience card – it only highlights that the VP pick on the GOP side is more qualified than he is.

wow… fishing. i’ve been fishing. lots of fun. i’m surprised that you didn’t add her years as “mom.” and the state championship basketball point is a real winner. you know your resume is thin if you have to pad it with that b.s. but still, i’d like to see a game of half-court 1-on-1 between obama and palin.
where’s her foreign experience? where’s her federal experience?
obama also has legislative experience. (your “unlike obama” statement is flat-out wrong.)
as alaska’s “commander in chief,” exactly what experience does she have, other than carrying the title? that’s right, none.
even republicans are shaking their heads at this one. mcnugget just diffused his best argument against obama.

RIB, where do you get your sources? Obama has ten years experience in public office, more than Hillary Clinton (six-plus years as Senator from New York)). Barack’s first eight years spent in the Illinois senate before histwo years (and counting) of service in the U.S. Senate.
In the Illinois State Senate, he created programs like the state Earned Income Tax Credit, which in three years provided over $100 million in tax cuts to families across the state. He also pushed through an expansion of early childhood education, and after a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases
ZERO foreign policy experience?? Obama served on three of the four Senate Committees dealing with foreign policy issues including the Foreign Relations; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Veterans’ Affairs committees and is the Chair of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Relations which is responsible fore U.S. relations with European countries, the European Union, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (i.e., NATO).
Obama also served on the Foreign Relations committee. He is the Chair of the Subcommittee on European Relations and serves on the Subcommittees on African Affairs; East Asia and Pacific Affairs; and International Development and Foreign Assistance, Economic Affairs, and International Environmental Protection. He has knowledge about Asian, African and European issues and is the only other member of the Foreign Relations committee who is ran for President EXCEPT for Democrat Joe Biden who is Chairman of the full Foreign Relations Committee. Yes, that Joe Biden.
DON’T say that Obama has no experience. You’re absolutely dead wrong.

the truth is, she is obscure and is clearly an act of desperation. Mc Cain is absolutely insincere in his choice considering his record when it comes to sensitivity towards minority groups (including women). it makes me feel sick…
apparently there is a willingness to try any trick to continue to trick people into believing that he is a person adorned with the intent to make decisions that actually help the masses. he lacks empathy and compassion. compassion meaning having a real concern for others – something that he does not communicate and has not demonstrated in his politicking. his presence feels flat and dead. currently he lacks true passion for even the things that used to matter to him.
in general, the republican party has failed to show true concern for its own party members who once were loyal and less fortunate. like their no child left behind program. you just put a good name on it even though they know it means nothing in terms of really helping people. however his loyalty to the rich and those glowing with religious self righteousness has grown. now i see his true stripes are more full of nothing of value than i originally thought. Palin has become the final blow and now I realize the depth of how phony, deceptive and soulless the Republican party has become.
it is all a facade to preserve the power and wealth for the few!
