One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1. She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life. A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

Rest in peace, Internet Monk.
A man known in the cyber world as The Internet Monk, has died. Michael Spencer lost his battle with cancer tonight.
My prayers go out for his family and for all those who loved and will miss him. :(

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments.
The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others.
Through it, I have seen people reach out

This can only mean he’s dropping the Messiah image and going for Zeus.

there’s a house in my neighborhood with classic-greek style columns. so? is mccain planning to do his acceptance speech from isle 7 at the corner market (applesauce clean up on isle 7).
really, when is mccain going to move beyond the superficial? is he that devoid of real ideas that he can’t tell us what he plans to do if selected president?
oh, and p.o.w.

Too bad McCain can’t manage his way out of a paper bag; no way could he pull something this big off. He knows any attempt would crash and burn like all five of his Navy jets. Ooh, the envy stings, don’t it McGoo? Similarly with the Reformed Chicks. She is envious because she is so fat.

Unfortunately for the Republicans, they’re gonna have Cheney and Bush speaking at their convention. I’m quite sure that a lot of Republicans would admit that these two aren’t the best pitchmen for the Republican brand.
Obama doesn’t even have to make a commercial, the Republicans are doing it for him.
NO MORE McSAME!

The Obamaniacs can’t see how this appears to Joe Sixpack in flyover country – the very people Obama will need if he has any hopes of winning. He already has an image problem with the “messiah” meme, so now he decides to double down by creating his own Mt. Olympus for him to make his acceptance speech. This just reinforces the impression that he has delusions of grandeur, and will not go over well with working-calss Democrats and independents.
Is it any wonder he is not getting any bounce out of his own convention?

Well, at least they are getting Bush and Cheney out of the way on the first day of the convention. Obama has let the Clinton’s hijack almost the whole week, allowing the story of the week to be the conflict between the Clinton and Obama camps, instead of about Obama’s nomination.

Let’s see now. McCain graduated at the (almost) bottom of his class, Obama at the top. McCain supports the Rich Elite, Obama the working Middle Class. McCain complains that Obama is more popular than he is.
Obama has one wife, one house and works for the people, McCain has been married twice, cheats on his wife and can’t even keep track of how many homes he has PLUS he works for the Oil Barons and those who have profited on the lives of American fighters.
Why would any American Woman who wants to Reform this country ever vote for him. If he had his way, you would be in the kitchen, cooking supper for his wife and himself and earning $6.00 an hour.
Get real, Michele, the GOP does not have a clue what is fair, just or needed for American women or anybody else except themselves.

um… messiah and mt. olympus don’t quite mix in your made up metaphor.
and the whole “messiah” meme only flies in the wing-nut circles (yeah, that 20-some percent that still support bush and his policies that mccain will continue). and ironically, it goes over well with these christo-political nuts who are in your court:

Video Had Asked Prayers For ‘Rain Of Biblical Proportions’
apparently dobson and company caught the weather report that followed shortly after and pulled the commercial realizing how stupid they would look when it didn’t rain.
oops! p.o.w.

Joe Sixpack?
When I heard about this, what came to mind were Hitler and Goebbels giving speeches in stadia from platforms architected to invoke Roman emperors.
Can anyone say “Caligula”?

It is quite possible that to your average Joe, Greek columns are more likely to evoke government buildings, which are typically done in the Classical style, than pagan temples.
I mean, which do you see more often? Greek temples or your local court house, or photos of the nation’s capital, which is FULL of such columns.

My mother’s extended family was German, and Jewish. One of the old family stories was about Cousin Joachim, a very modern-minded Jew, who was quite taken with Hitler’s speaking style. And he thought all the columns really spoke to the recovery of the Fatherland from the errors leading to and through World War I and the Weimar Republic.
Jewish cousin Joachim voted National Socialist, during the last election anyone got to vote for a while. Then we don’t know what happened to him, but nobody heard from him after 1934.
Stadiums, columns, crowds, they can be exciting. But I prefer my candidate be boring, and competent. And not executing me is also highly desirable. I’m really big on not being executed. This is really quite high on my list.

It looks like Obama’s set actually looks a lot like Bush’s from 2004. It had columns and everything.

Are you really that dense? The stage is going to look like the Lincoln Memorial. The very same Lincoln Memorial where MLK gave his “I Have a Dream” speech 45 years ago tomorrow:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Memorial
Republicans really must be desperate for anything to nail Obama on if they’re stupid enough to miss the obvious symbolism of that stage in favor of some sort of Greek temple analogy.

excellent! oh, and on the 45th anniversary of king’s “i have a dream” speech, even! what a strong and very iconic visual for history being made again tonight!
i wonder how stupid republicans will be feeling once they make that connection? OUCH. well, i wouldn’t expect mccain to ever get it – you know, voting against the mlk jr holiday and all that. i do hope that obama actually makes note of that in his speech tonight just to help out those who don’t pay attention to that sort of american history. the obama camp is having a great big chuckle at the mccain group right about now.
