Obama campaigning in the Midwest this week

posted by Susan Johnson | 9:05am Sunday September 28, 2008

So, here’s a question: Obama is up by 6 in Michigan according to the RCP average yet he’s campaigning in Detroit a month before the election, why?

Barack Obama was to move his campaign to the industrial Midwest Sunday as the Democratic nominee and his Republican rival, John McCain, tore into one another over the reeling US economy.
Obama was to speak at a rally in Detroit one day after the US Senate approved 25 billion dollars in loan guarantees for the financially strapped US auto industry.

Why isn’t he spending his time trying to flip Florida, Virginia and North Carolina? Does he think he has those states already? Or does his internal polling tell him more about what’s going on in Michigan than we are seeing in the RCP average?

One Final Word
My dear friend Michele slipped into eternity on Wednesday, February 1.   She was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of faith, determination, and love. For three years she courageously battled the ovarian cancer that eventually robbed her of her life.  A few days before she died, one of her docto

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated
My husband told me that there are rumors that I've died. I'm happy to report that I'm still very much alive. My cancer has gone to stage four but we are controlling it with chemo, the cancer numbers are currently in the normal range. I've stopped blogging to concentrate on my daughters and writing a

An update and a prayer request
Several people have asked about Michele's condition, and have promised to pray for her. On her behalf, I thank you for that. I spoke with her a little while ago, and she asked that I come here and tell you what's going on, and to ask you to pray for her. She isn't able to post here herself right

The peace that passes all understanding, pt. 1
I'm coming out of my normal hiding place to make a few comments. The internet is a strange place. It is often a wonderful place, a helpful place, a unifying place. But it is also alienating, cold, and is the perfect medium in which to depersonalize others. Through it, I have seen people reach out

Obama was just in Virginia and has been in Florida. He’s heading to Michigan because while he’s ahead, the state is always volatile and he needs to keep it strong.
Also, stops in Michigan mean free air time in newspapers and on television that is heard in Indiana and Ohio and Wisconsin.

Macolm County (just north of Detroit) can swing either way and that could easily decide the state. That’s the target.
This is the closest that Michigan has been in several elections, and there are still some Democrats who are a little resentful over the primary debacle. The Detroit area is heavily liberal and he’ll want to sooth as many as those souls as he can.

GAT, you need to check the Intrade site. You’re a little behind when it comes to the odds. Their prediction: Obama has 338 electoral votes, McCain 220.
